Hello, everyone. Welcome to CNET's coverage of Amazon's smartphone event. The event kicks off at 10:30 a.m. PT / 1:30 p.m. ET.
  • James Martin 6/18/2014 4:44:46 PM

We're outside the Amazon event in Seattle!

  • James Martin 6/18/2014 4:45:43 PM

    It's a very orange wall.

  • Roger Cheng 6/18/2014 4:46:23 PM
Hey, Roger Cheng, executive editor of CNET News, here in line for the Amazon event.
  • Roger Cheng 6/18/2014 4:47:01 PM
They haven't let us in to the venue yet, but I see the regulars: Engadget, The Verge, all here with us.
  • Roger Cheng 6/18/2014 4:48:45 PM

Here's the line of folks waiting to get in. There's separate entrances for media and customers, which Amazon also invited through a random drawing.

  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/18/2014 4:48:52 PM

Roger and I are ready to go.

  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/18/2014 4:49:35 PM

    Amazon is "regal" and classy.

  • Roger Cheng 6/18/2014 4:49:48 PM
We are at least 10 minutes away from the doors opening, and another 30 minutes from the start of the event.
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/18/2014 4:51:28 PM

Our behind the scenes camera peeps extraordinaire: Jared, Mariel, James.

  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/18/2014 4:53:23 PM

Team CNET (kindly taken by Engadget's Brad Molen, who insisted on photo credit.)

  • Roger Cheng 6/18/2014 4:59:53 PM

The CNET crew woke up early to make sure you all had a front-row seat to the coverage (via live blog).

Broadcasters just got in. And we're next.
  • Roger Cheng 6/18/2014 5:08:24 PM
Ok, I was told the doors were opening, but we're still outside. And it's surprisingly cold.

  • Roger Cheng 6/18/2014 5:18:20 PM
Hey all! We're finally inside and seated.
  • James Martin 6/18/2014 5:18:24 PM
  • Roger Cheng 6/18/2014 5:18:59 PM
The venue is small and intimate, which is surprising considering the customers Amazon invited to this event.
  • Roger Cheng 6/18/2014 5:19:39 PM
It's a dark venue -- so dark that it was a bit disorienting when we first walked in (I bumped into Jessica by accident).
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/18/2014 5:20:01 PM
    Roger has sharp elbows :(
  • Roger Cheng 6/18/2014 5:20:08 PM
In front of us is a large stage with an Amazon-branded podium. Behind it, a large blue screen with the Amazon logo in the center.
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/18/2014 5:20:26 PM
Yeah, this is hardly the public spectacle we were led to believe.
  • Roger Cheng 6/18/2014 5:21:00 PM
The right and back side of the wall are covered with a screen with blue and pink accent lights, with little stars flying about.
  • Roger Cheng 6/18/2014 5:23:38 PM
There are about 300 people (sorry, I'm bad at estimating) in attendance. The doors only opened a few minutes ago, but the room is packed.
  • Roger Cheng 6/18/2014 5:24:09 PM
We're supposedly seven minutes away from the 10:30 a.m. PT start time, but I suspect it will start late. They always start late.
  • kellan 6/18/2014 5:24:16 PM
enjoying the detailed description...since I am not there...observations appreciated
  • Roger Cheng 6/18/2014 5:24:23 PM
    @kellan: Thanks!
  • Dave 6/18/2014 5:24:31 PM
Yeah... AT&T's network is the only one that can support DATA and Voice... So... if you want a phone and a data device... then AT&T's network is the only choice.
  • Roger Cheng 6/18/2014 5:24:55 PM
@Dave: That's not true. T-Mobile also supports data and voice.
  • Carrie Mihalcik 6/18/2014 5:25:14 PM
  • davey 6/18/2014 5:25:57 PM
This phone will either be first of its kind or another galaxy copy
  • Roger Cheng 6/18/2014 5:26:25 PM
@davey: Amazon better have something better than a Galaxy copy. Otherwise, it'll be crushed.
  • KingK 6/18/2014 5:27:33 PM
I really don't like the Asian guy's personality...He acts like he knows more than he actually knows
  • Roger Cheng 6/18/2014 5:27:50 PM
@KingK: Actually, I really do know that much.
  • AndreaG 6/18/2014 5:27:58 PM
I don't know why they would bother with 3D when it seems to have been just a passing fad.
