"One more thing." First of CES?
  • Josh Miller 1/7/2014 12:46:09 AM
  • Rich Brown 1/7/2014 12:46:11 AM
    MakerBot Entertainment.
  • Nick Statt 1/7/2014 12:46:45 AM
That Steve Jobs reference is either super corny or evidence that Pettis loves the stage. Maybe both?
  • Rich Brown 1/7/2014 12:47:38 AM
Thought he said Entertainment. MakerBot Studios, I guess. Feed into the MakerBot Digital Store, a new retail front-end.
  • Nick Statt 1/7/2014 12:47:41 AM
"When can I purchase and download things that just work?" Pettis asks rhetorically. He's channeling more Apple when talking up the MakerBot Digital Store.
  • Josh Miller 1/7/2014 12:47:58 AM
  • Rich Brown 1/7/2014 12:48:06 AM
High quality designs made by pros.
  • Josh Miller 1/7/2014 12:48:23 AM
  • Rich Brown 1/7/2014 12:48:38 AM
Around Town is one collection. A set of cute characters for you to print out.
  • Josh Miller 1/7/2014 12:48:49 AM
  • Rich Brown 1/7/2014 12:49:07 AM
Chunky Trucks, toy construction vehicles and workers. Cosmic Cadets, rockets you can build and rebuild.
  • Rich Brown 1/7/2014 12:49:14 AM
    Toy rockets, that is.
  • Rich Brown 1/7/2014 12:49:27 AM
Dragons of Glastonbury. Fantasy themed toys.
  • Nick Statt 1/7/2014 12:49:28 AM
Toy lines mark an interesting new frontier for 3D printing.
  • Nick Statt 1/7/2014 12:50:06 AM
Line of toy planes could be huge as a next generation version of old school model kits. Very cool.
  • Rich Brown 1/7/2014 12:50:25 AM
Famous Flyers. Historic aircraft. Pet Pals = cutesy animals. Little pets built inside their own little house thing.
  • Rich Brown 1/7/2014 12:50:58 AM
All of this obviously aimed at kids. Models for 99 cents, whole collections for $9.99.
  • Josh Miller 1/7/2014 12:51:23 AM
  • Nick Statt 1/7/2014 12:52:33 AM
Pettis is in recap mode. Collectively, this unveiling has been huge.
  • Rich Brown 1/7/2014 12:52:58 AM
I get the impetus for the retail store. Others have it, attracts design talent to MakerBot brand. Seems counter to basic DIY premise of 3D printing, though. Analogy is iTunes for 3D printers, but 3D printers aren't really music players, they're more like music instruments.
  • Nick Statt 1/7/2014 12:53:50 AM
For a recap of the new printers:
    • MakerBot Replicator Mini: $1,399
    • MakerBot Replicator: $2,899
    • MakerBot Z18: $6,499
  • Josh Miller 1/7/2014 12:54:16 AM
  • Rich Brown 1/7/2014 12:54:32 AM
Pettis wrapping up. Big expansion of MakerBot portfolio here. These guys remain the smartest marketing outfit in 3D printing industry. Also super aggressive. Good. The segment needs someone to drive excitement whether you like everything they do or not.
