A motion co-processor. Enables new generation of Health and Fitness apps.
  • Tim Stevens 9/10/2013 5:45:04 PM
It's a motion co-processor. It aggregates and monitors accelerometer, gyro, and compass data and offloads it from the A7.
  • Scott Stein 9/10/2013 5:45:06 PM
    A-ha. A-HA.
  • Josh Lowensohn 9/10/2013 5:45:21 PM
  • Tim Stevens 9/10/2013 5:45:32 PM
Phil says this will enable a "whole new level" of fitness apps. The CoreMotion API in iOS 7 will be updated to characterize data, to let devs know whether you're walking, driving, etc.
  • Scott Stein 9/10/2013 5:45:36 PM
Apparently helps optimizations based on contextual awareness. Oh boy. Health baked-in.

Nike. Making new app Nike Plus Move.
  • Tim Stevens 9/10/2013 5:45:49 PM
"We've been working with developers to do this. They're doing amazing work." Nike got a heads-up, creating an app called Nike+ Move.

The iWatch is the iPhone 5S. (or adopts some of those ideas)
  • Tim Stevens 9/10/2013 5:46:11 PM
It keeps track of what you're up to, tracks your Fuel points, and lets you compete with friends over GameCenter."

    Battery life...
  • Tim Stevens 9/10/2013 5:46:24 PM
"A7, M7, a lot more performance... what about battery life?"
  • Tim Stevens 9/10/2013 5:46:42 PM
"Equal or greater than the iPhone 5 had." 10 hours of 3G talk time, 10 hours of LTE browsing, 10 hours of video.
  • Josh Lowensohn 9/10/2013 5:46:50 PM
  • Scott Stein 9/10/2013 5:46:56 PM
Hmm. Claims of 10 hours of LTE browsing, Wi-Fi. 40 hours of music. 250 hours standby. Main battery life claim not a huge leap over last year.
  • Tim Stevens 9/10/2013 5:46:57 PM
"That's the first of our breakthrough technologies in the iPhone 5S." What next?
  • Tim Stevens 9/10/2013 5:47:08 PM
Why, camera next. "People love taking photos with their iPhones and its iSight camera."
  • Josh Lowensohn 9/10/2013 5:47:31 PM
  • Scott Stein 9/10/2013 5:47:35 PM
The M7 is very intriguing. Wonder if that re-emerges in an iWatch.
  • Tim Stevens 9/10/2013 5:47:41 PM
"It used to be the way you took better pictures was you learned to take better pictures." He's showing all the gear you'd have to buy and training you'd need. "For the people who want to do this, that's great. But for most of us, we just want to take a better picture."
  • Tim Stevens 9/10/2013 5:52:21 PM
There's a burst mode too, 10fps for as long as you hold your finger on the shutter. (This, presumably, is what it's doing in the background all the time.)
  • Scott Stein 9/10/2013 5:52:23 PM
Burst mode will help me get a picture of Al Gore next time.
  • Josh Lowensohn 9/10/2013 5:52:33 PM

  • Scott Stein 9/10/2013 5:52:45 PM
So, what do you all think so far?
  • Tim Stevens 9/10/2013 5:52:56 PM
"Now, if every time you did this you'd have to go to your camera roll and sort through your photos, the fun would be lost." But, of course, Apple has your back. The Camera Roll will present its favorite, and you can look at the rest if you like.
  • Scott Stein 9/10/2013 5:53:05 PM
(we haven't even gotten to that Home Button yet)
  • Josh Lowensohn 9/10/2013 5:53:06 PM
  • Tim Stevens 9/10/2013 5:53:10 PM
And, if it's an action sequence, it'll choose a few favorites for you to look at. All automatically done.
  • Josh Lowensohn 9/10/2013 5:53:34 PM
  • Tim Stevens 9/10/2013 5:53:48 PM
There's a 120fps slow-motion camera too. We're looking at someone do a rather impressive backflip belly flop into a pool in slow-mo.

The faster video-recording framerate offering slo-mo: good for pool dives, sports...baby tricks
  • Tim Stevens 9/10/2013 5:54:14 PM
"All of these great features and technologies are simply in service of taking a beautiful picture."
  • Scott Stein 9/10/2013 5:54:22 PM
    Showing video and pics.
  • Tim Stevens 9/10/2013 5:54:31 PM
We're looking at a bunch of examples now, all raw photos from the 5S. Typical macro flower shot, some chilis from the garden.
  • Tim Stevens 9/10/2013 5:54:38 PM
Might we see a hot air balloon, like usual?
  • Scott Stein 9/10/2013 5:54:43 PM
Very nice looking fruit and jellyfish and flowers.
  • Tim Stevens 9/10/2013 5:54:48 PM
Here's a jellyfish at an acquarium.
