  • Therealtjackson 9/12/2012 7:29:31 PM
And the countdown for jailbreaking begins now ....
  • mdjack 9/12/2012 7:29:33 PM
I forgot to ask rich, what phone do you have currently?
  • matt 9/12/2012 7:29:55 PM
Have any pictures been released of the iPhone 5 yet?
  • Rich Brown 9/12/2012 7:29:55 PM
@mdjack Droid Incredible original flavor. Upgrade time for me, but not sure if it will be the iPhone yet.
  • GHANEM 9/12/2012 7:30:06 PM
Watching from Kuwait. Thanx CNET for this great job
  • David Hamilton 9/12/2012 7:30:19 PM
  • NieNie 9/12/2012 7:30:54 PM
The new iPod Nano design looks amateurish and really should have been left to die before it even got past the design stage.
  • NieNie 9/12/2012 7:31:23 PM
Can't really justify upgrading my current phone (iPhone 4) to the new version. No real stand out features, although the one thing I am happy about is the upgrade of the Facetime camera.
  • Micronaught 9/12/2012 7:31:43 PM
4s user here, not upgrading .. Form factor and size of my current phone wins out, I usually buy new tech for tech sake, but I will wait for the 6 I think
  • rg92 9/12/2012 7:31:47 PM
hey guys, thanks for all the info but i had a question, maybe i didn't hear it well but did they mention if the iphone would be dual core or quad core and also how much ram it's going to have
  • Rich Brown 9/12/2012 7:32:29 PM
@micronaught It will have an A6 processor, which is a quad core cpu. Not sure about RAM
  • Redd 9/12/2012 7:32:43 PM
No NFC? Just a bigger screen, and Lte, nothing "groundbreaking" at all...
  • Micronaught 9/12/2012 7:32:50 PM
4s user here , early adopter stamped on my forehead but I am not feeling the urge here.
  • David Hamilton 9/12/2012 7:32:52 PM
@Abir Das: See the link above for pricing
  • mikevhl 9/12/2012 7:33:39 PM
@rich brown @micronaught Rumors were 1gb of ram, which is also in the new iPad, so I'd guess 1gb of ram.
  • Endofapple 9/12/2012 7:33:52 PM
Time to buy a Samsung. I have bought all versions of the iPhone. I only use macs and an iPad. Time to rediscover the mobile setup. iPhone 5 is beyond the others. And iOS 6 has features I don't need at all, twitter, Facebook etc. I hate that leaving the apple Eco system will cost money but better now than later. Features only for new iOS devices for no obvious reason. And now a new iPhone which has a small screen no customisable home screen, no real multitasking and I guess again a weak battery.
  • Aaron 9/12/2012 7:34:05 PM
I think that this device was not about making the device look different, but making it rock with iOS6 that is about to come out. There's a lot of new stuff in the iOS that definitely would perform better on the new phone
  • Matt 9/12/2012 7:34:05 PM
I don't mean to be too picky and glad there is competition now, because I'm just not sure & not that impressed. NOTHING super new and innovative here. It's like the iPhone 4SS
  • QuackFiend 9/12/2012 7:34:12 PM
I see that they're going to ship the new earpods with the iPhone 5, was there any indication if they're going to include a dock-adapter as well?
  • Kramerica_Industries 9/12/2012 7:34:32 PM
I'm actually quite excited to see what the new "ear pods" sound like. Much room for improvement over the current ear phones.
  • TerryW 9/12/2012 7:35:10 PM
I think people are missing the amount of smaller upgrades that are part of this phone.. better sound quality, 3 mics, better speakers, earpods, new connector, screen size, processor, ram upgrades (1GB), the touch sensors are now part of the screen making it more responsive.. I have a Incredible 2 which I love but this is a serious upgrade in the iPhone world.
  • flowman 9/12/2012 7:35:18 PM
I'm not digging the new placement of the 3.5 mm headphone jack for the iPhone 5, it resembles the iPod touch... I'm not saying that will deter me from upgrading from my iPhone 4 but I'm just saying it will be a weird feeling and a big little change for me and case manufacturers.
  • Jivin 9/12/2012 7:35:21 PM
Foo Fighters were a little over the top... Steve Jobs chose his music carefully, like Beatles and Bob Dylan. This made the iPhone seem more exclusive. This presentation was all kinds of messy..
  • Billy 9/12/2012 7:35:22 PM
@mikevhl I was wondering why it wasn't included in presentation ..
  • Joel 9/12/2012 7:35:33 PM
The new Nano colors are HORRIBLE... the design looks like they were trying too hard. It really does look like a cheap knock-off....
  • Therealtjackson 9/12/2012 7:35:36 PM
    @Kramerica_Industries agreed.
  • TorpeAlex 9/12/2012 7:35:43 PM
What are your guys' thoughts on the overall design of the iPhone 5? We're you hoping for a complete overhaul of the case or the tried-and-true route that Apple seems to be taking? I'm not sure if I'm sold on the black model's 'charcoal' aluminum myself
  • @marknota 9/12/2012 7:35:49 PM
a big leap in the air and straight down - disappointing from a lifetime apple user - I may go Android now
  • Rich Brown 9/12/2012 7:37:19 PM
@TorpeAlex I guess I don't feel like Apple has much to improve design wise. Not sure what else I'd want from them in terms of overall appearance. Lots of subjectivity there, of course, but I like the general industrial minimalist feel of each of the more recent iPhones
  • sw125 9/12/2012 7:37:24 PM
On a slightly unrelated note, I think folks should maybe hold off on buying the iPhone 5 incase of "early adopter problems". In particular, the screen... while I'm not saying it will be a problem, there IS a problem with the retina display on MANY of the new macbook pros - namely screens manufactured by LG showing imagine persistence/ ghosting (whereas the screens made by Samsung are fine in comparison, and Apple is using both manufacturers). There is a huge thread on the Apple Community discussion board about this (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4034848?start=2865&tstart=0). Some people have had 7-8 replacements all with LG screens showing image persistence. I am one of them - now waiting for a 3rd replacement. Given that Apple is seemingly relying less on Samsung now (not surprising given the legal battles between them) and more on LG (for the iPhone 5 too) I'd be a little cautious about being an early adopter of any Apple product right now!
  • ahamling27 9/12/2012 7:37:55 PM
I saw on the wiki page that the A6 still might be dual core, not quad. I don't know though, they highlighted some big gains in performance which would make me believe it's quad.
  • Joel 9/12/2012 7:38:41 PM
I think the bigger screen will prove to be a big deal, especially since it has deeper color saturation. It will surprise people when they see old and new side by side.
  • TorpeAlex 9/12/2012 7:38:48 PM
@flowman I find it makes more sense myself. Having cords coming out of both sides of the device seemed unwieldy to me and you can always invert the orientation of the screen if you prefer your 'phones up. With armbands and docks it might be a tougher sell admittedly.
  • Rich Brown 9/12/2012 7:38:52 PM
There might be variations of the A6, but I'm most of the reports I've read about the iPhone's A6 say it's quad.
  • PompeyFCFan 9/12/2012 7:39:08 PM
@QuackFiend The stnadard iphone headphones are awful, I bought a pair of Sony headphones from a local shope fpr less than £10 that are 1000 times better than Apple's. The new EarPods, to be worth the £20 or $30 will have to be stunning in terms of sound quality and clarity.
  • Kramerica_Industries 9/12/2012 7:39:15 PM
I'm a current iPhone 4 user, passed on the 4S. I'm out of contract, so for me the iPhone 5 makes sense. It'll be a nice performance upgrade going to the A6 along with the much improved camera. I'm HOPING Maps in iOS 6 is as awesome as I want it to be. I've been shopping for a new car GPS in recent weeks and looks like the ne Maps will make that unnecessary.
  • mikevhl 9/12/2012 7:39:16 PM
@billy Apple usually doesnt include those specs in their announcements. Only the improvement gains. Notice how they didn't specifically say wether the A6 was Quad or Dual core, and the amount of Ram also wasn't told. They skip that information at a lot of events. But you really can't compare iPhone hardware with Android hardware. Since iOS is more optimized for it's limited amount of devices, it will work faster on lower specced devices than on Android ones.
  • S2G 9/12/2012 7:39:26 PM
one massive issue for me with iphone no customisable application for each screen , i just hate the look of the menu of maybe sick of it
  • Sean 9/12/2012 7:39:35 PM
Hi can somebody comment and answer this: what time does the preordering START on friday!?
  • wanfan 9/12/2012 7:40:20 PM
Iphone 5 is really amazing to me, It's almost clear that the design and the overall realization of the device is one more time the best we ever seen. But I think the new Ipod nano is awful. The last one was better, at least you would be able to clip it runnig or somewhat else... Poor Jobs would like to kick someone...
  • Marcelleo 9/12/2012 7:40:24 PM
I don't know folks...after this announcment, it is still looking like the Gs3 will be what I purchase...we'll see...
  • mrmong 9/12/2012 7:40:38 PM
any word on pricing for unlocked versions? i didnt see any mention
  • Kelly 9/12/2012 7:40:41 PM
Preordering is 6am PST to call in to Apple.
  • ThatGuy 9/12/2012 7:41:09 PM
Perhaps the A6 is the rumored arm 15 chip.
  • Rich Brown 9/12/2012 7:41:18 PM
I don't believe Apple mentioned an unlocked iPhone 5.
