@PaulSloan yep it happened with timeline
  • Trent 3/7/2013 5:56:22 PM
Prediction #2: Everyone claims to hate this new update for the first two weeks but then won't even be able to remember what the current one looks like after a while. I have trouble remembering the previous layout!
  • Josh Miller 3/7/2013 5:56:24 PM
  • Strat_0 3/7/2013 5:56:54 PM
    Thanks Casey :)
  • Casey Newton 3/7/2013 5:56:58 PM
    I live to serve.
  • Josh Miller 3/7/2013 5:57:15 PM

    The notorious DYT.

  • Paul Sloan 3/7/2013 5:57:38 PM
    Donna Tam in the house!
  • Dustin Winter 3/7/2013 5:57:45 PM
I am hoping they reinvent the poke feature!
  • Paul Sloan 3/7/2013 5:58:16 PM
Notice the poster in the back: "Move fast and break things." Big motto at FB.
  • Strat_0 3/7/2013 5:58:19 PM
Hopefully this new update is a very big refresh. Facebook seems to be getting a bit stagnant these days.
  • Josh Miller 3/7/2013 5:58:19 PM
  • Donna Tam 3/7/2013 5:58:26 PM
Whoa. I look a little too excited there. Doing a little hurry up and wait!
  • Paul Sloan 3/7/2013 5:58:52 PM
Yes, all. And thanks Casey. Stick around and let's discuss the whole thing.
  • Dustin Winter 3/7/2013 6:01:02 PM
I'm gonna do some yoga to this music while I wait. Namaste.
  • Josh Miller 3/7/2013 6:01:08 PM

    FOCUS

  • Casey Newton 3/7/2013 6:01:28 PM
It really is the chillest pre-tech event music I have ever heard. Cannot remember the last time I felt so chill.
  • ravishukle 3/7/2013 6:01:36 PM
The other real question is, when is this going to roll out to all users. Seems like New Zealand are the ones getting the updates first
  • Casey Newton 3/7/2013 6:01:59 PM
Facebook has a notorious pro-Kiwi bias
  • Captain Slaphead 3/7/2013 6:02:05 PM
The "Fail" poster in the background is just begging for a joke
  • Om 3/7/2013 6:02:26 PM
Wonderful to see Namaste.......hindi on cnet!!
  • Jeremy Knight 3/7/2013 6:03:09 PM
    whens it starting
  • Casey Newton 3/7/2013 6:03:16 PM
    The million dollar question.
  • Ixan Hermogino 3/7/2013 6:03:28 PM
    FOCUS > Fail
  • Donna Tam 3/7/2013 6:03:30 PM
    Should be any minute now...
  • Paul Sloan 3/7/2013 6:03:51 PM
Okay. Key question: What do users dislike about News Feed?
  • Casey Newton 3/7/2013 6:03:52 PM
I posted the "Fail" comment about the "Focus" poster because it was a "Fail" showing the commenter had not "Focused." FYI.
  • Josh Miller 3/7/2013 6:04:12 PM
  • Captain Slaphead 3/7/2013 6:04:30 PM
I failed! I feel quite honoured now
  • Paul Sloan 3/7/2013 6:05:01 PM
Is this about user improvements or play for more ads? Or can they really be one and the same?

Here's Zuckerberg from 2Q earnings call: "We’ve told every product team that they’re responsible for the advertising experience within each of their products, so the News Feed team is coming up with better ad experiences than just being able to run kind of general ads on the side."
  • Thatface 3/7/2013 6:05:24 PM
Probably an hour with numbers and statistics first, before the actual content i presented
  • Josh Miller 3/7/2013 6:05:31 PM
  • Casey Newton 3/7/2013 6:05:40 PM
The News Feed just looks a little shaggy to me. Hasn't been updated in years. And with more kinds of content coming into the stream, it may make sense to introduce new tabs for music and other things.
  • Donna Tam 3/7/2013 6:05:47 PM
    Zuck's in the house!!!
  • Parth Makwana 3/7/2013 6:05:48 PM
how long it will take to start??
    i m from india & its 11.35 PM
should i sleep or wait for this event to start??
  • Casey Newton 3/7/2013 6:05:59 PM
Definitely don't go to sleep. Stay up all night. This is the future we're talking about.
  • Donna Tam 3/7/2013 6:06:00 PM
Today we're going to talk about a new design for news feed, he says
  • Justin Maslin 3/7/2013 6:06:02 PM
I really hope its a robot that identifies spam pictures and lowers the 'weight' of the pictures that user shares in the future.
  • Paul Sloan 3/7/2013 6:06:06 PM
    Here we go
  • Donna Tam 3/7/2013 6:06:22 PM
News feed is one of the most important services that we build
  • Josh Miller 3/7/2013 6:06:24 PM
  • Donna Tam 3/7/2013 6:06:33 PM
it's easy to think about it as a single stream of content
  • Donna Tam 3/7/2013 6:06:44 PM
we want to give everyone in the world a copy of the best newspaper in the world
  • Donna Tam 3/7/2013 6:06:53 PM
    a personalized newspaper
  • Josh Miller 3/7/2013 6:07:16 PM
  • Donna Tam 3/7/2013 6:07:22 PM
He said it should give you news from everyone important to you, but it should be able to drill down into any topic you want.
