This is interesting. There is much confusion currently about who sees what -- especially for brands posting to their pages.

Making sure you have the same experience on mobile.

  • Smerkle 3/7/2013 6:26:57 PM

Tablet and phone navigation hasn't changed much, but the deskstop version has taken a page from the mobile devices.
  • Josh Miller 3/7/2013 6:27:35 PM
  • Donna Tam 3/7/2013 6:27:47 PM
Global navigation -- go through one page to another without having to go back to the homepage
  • Donna Tam 3/7/2013 6:28:02 PM
The new design gives people have a tray to see who is online and chat with those people.
  • Josh Miller 3/7/2013 6:28:25 PM
  • Donna Tam 3/7/2013 6:28:29 PM
Talking about consistency again -- for publishers and brands to think about how their content will look across all screens.
  • Paul Sloan 3/7/2013 6:28:32 PM
@smerkle Good question. EdgeRank is Facebook's black box algorithm that determines who sees what. Sounds like it will play a different role for sure

  • Casey Newton 3/7/2013 6:28:58 PM
Cox says redesigned chat bar means we're going to start hearing from people with "old PCs" that "we haven't heard from in a while." I consider that a threat, because I really don't want to hear from my Aunt Linda right now.
  • Donna Tam 3/7/2013 6:29:12 PM
He found on the phone he was having quicker access to check on friends really quick, but on desktop you spend more time looking at different content.

Brought over the bubble notification to the Web experience.
  • Donna Tam 3/7/2013 6:30:07 PM
Recap: richer story design, different cuts in the feed and overall consistency, he said.

  • Josh Miller 3/7/2013 6:30:28 PM
  • Donna Tam 3/7/2013 6:30:41 PM
We're going to be very very careful and slow about how we roll it out.
  • Josh Miller 3/7/2013 6:31:00 PM
  • Donna Tam 3/7/2013 6:31:02 PM
People may start seeing it in the next few weeks.
  • Josh Miller 3/7/2013 6:31:23 PM
  • Donna Tam 3/7/2013 6:31:27 PM
    That's a wrap.

    Taking questions now.
  • nafiz 3/7/2013 6:31:53 PM
when r we going to get the new look in ASIA?
  • Casey Newton 3/7/2013 6:31:56 PM
    The chill music returns!!
  • Donna Tam 3/7/2013 6:32:08 PM
How will new design impact ads?
  • Josh Miller 3/7/2013 6:32:09 PM
  • Donna Tam 3/7/2013 6:32:34 PM
Making it richer and more immerse like everything else, Julie says.
  • Casey Newton 3/7/2013 6:32:42 PM
So the end of the presentation showed a URL -- facebook.com/newsfeed -- that is not working right now.
  • Paul Sloan 3/7/2013 6:32:44 PM
Well, that was that. No details about who will see the new design when, just that the rollout is gradual. It's hard to evaluate all this until we play with it.
  • Josh Miller 3/7/2013 6:32:48 PM
  • Casey Newton 3/7/2013 6:32:52 PM
Doesn't look like a way to opt in at the moment.
  • Josh Miller 3/7/2013 6:33:30 PM
  • Luke 3/7/2013 6:33:36 PM
I've been working on a social network as a school project, and the design I made a year ago looks quite similar to what Facebook has shown off today :(
  • Kamran Mackey 3/7/2013 6:33:37 PM
@CaseyNewton They have to make it live. It may take a few minutes.
  • Donna Tam 3/7/2013 6:33:51 PM
Question about edgerank. Facebook says they aren't changing anything about the ranking algorithm.
