Becker: You saw a few of the real great people I get to work with each day. A few are in the audience today.
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:19:41 PM
Becker: At HTC, not just about industrial design but great experience. Sixth version of Sense UI, or how we like to call it "Sixth Sense"
Brian Bennett3/25/2014 3:19:41 PM
Can anyone top HTC in terms of pure smartphone industrial design? Nokia? Anyone?
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:20:05 PM
Becker: Let me tell you a little about the visual makeover. Redesigned Sense from top to bottom. Intuitive, fresh and bold. More open space, making it more modern and easier to read.
josh.miller3/25/2014 3:20:23 PM
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:20:26 PM
Becker: The color you see, it goes beyond pure styling. Color also marks simple activities so can see where you are.
Brian Bennett3/25/2014 3:20:39 PM
Here we go! Another revamp of the HTC Sense UI is happening...called Sense 6.
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:20:50 PM
Becker: Visual design of Sixth Sense is different than anything on the market. will resonate with ppl who wnat a really unique experience
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:20:58 PM
Becker: Last year introduced Blink Feed.
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:21:24 PM
Becker: With new version of Blinkfeed, make it even easier to find the content you're interested in. Articles easier to browse and read. Can create custom feeds on any topic.
josh.miller3/25/2014 3:21:24 PM
Brian Bennett3/25/2014 3:21:52 PM
Hmmm, it looks like you can now tweak Blinkfeed with custom news feeds, Samsung's My Magazine doesn't do that.
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:22:21 PM
Becker: We see a lot of potential to make Blinkfeed even more intuitive. Opening it up to developers so they can integrate content in ways that's interesting to you. One of our first partners is FourSquare. Will publish restaurant recommendations right in feed. Fitbit also - can use as fitness activity tracker.
josh.miller3/25/2014 3:22:31 PM
josh.miller3/25/2014 3:22:50 PM
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:22:55 PM
Becker: These are just two initial partners. (Seems like everyone is trying to make SDKs for developers. Samsung has been too)
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:23:29 PM
Becker: On the HTC One M8, visual layout makes it easier to see what's on. Now included real time social feeds and sports stats. When watching show, can swipe to right to get to official twitter pages.
Brian Bennett3/25/2014 3:23:45 PM
Hey, now Fitbit will work with some onboard activity tracking inside the One M8. Sounds good, and competitive with the GS5 and iPhone 5S.
josh.miller3/25/2014 3:24:07 PM
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:24:11 PM
Becker: Moving on to talk about audio. Signature Boom sound set the standard for audio
josh.miller3/25/2014 3:24:15 PM
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:24:35 PM
Becker: Finely tuned, multiband amplifier. Also redesigned speaker chambers. Results in audio 25% louder and has more depth. Clearer sound with everything you're listening to.
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:25:18 PM
Becker: Anything you're doing on your phone, can instantly be played through wireless speaker, TV, or stereo system. A few partners are Pioneer, Libratone, Yamaha, Parrott, i-Box, Microchip, D-Link etc
josh.miller3/25/2014 3:25:34 PM
Brian Bennett3/25/2014 3:25:48 PM
The BoomSound speakers on the old One were pretty dang loud...if the M8 is even louder...well that's something.
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:26:04 PM
Becker: These are a lot of great features but they don't do a lot for you if your battery's dead. Optimized battery performance. Goal is simple - make sure battery life is phenomenal. Larger batter and reduced power consumption. Battery life is 40% more than before. (That gets cheers from HTC folks)
josh.miller3/25/2014 3:26:12 PM
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:26:55 PM
Becker: Think you'll be surprised how long battery lasts. Shortly after launch - extreme power saving phone. Will have access to phones, messages. Can last up to 2 weeks in standby. Can manually access mode or automatically turn on when reach low power levels
josh.miller3/25/2014 3:26:55 PM
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:27:03 PM
(sounds like a response to Samsung's power-saving features)
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:27:22 PM
Becker: Some people check their phones over 150 times every single day.
josh.miller3/25/2014 3:27:26 PM
Brian Bennett3/25/2014 3:27:36 PM
This Extreme power mode is going head to head with the Galaxy S5's similar feature.
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:27:49 PM
Becker: HTC One eliminates steps and lets you bypass power and unlock. Constantly monitoring speed, power, proximity. M8 able to anticipate what you want to do.
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:28:08 PM
Becker: Depending on your gesture, will take you to Blinkfeed, widget, most recent app
josh.miller3/25/2014 3:28:28 PM
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:28:29 PM
Becker: If want to check time, can double tap on screen. Double tap again to turn it off.
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:28:56 PM
Becker: Hold up to ear and answers phone automatically. All thing can do with one hand. Goal is to make tasks use every day simple to do.
Brian Bennett3/25/2014 3:29:05 PM
Ah, HTC is taking pages out of LG's and Motorola's playbook for gesture controls. Interesting.
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:29:06 PM
Becker: New accessory - the Dot View Case
josh.miller3/25/2014 3:29:31 PM
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:29:35 PM
Becker: Dot matrix view of phone right on cover. Can double tap on case. Will show who's calling etc.
Shara Tibken3/25/2014 3:30:06 PM
Becker: When it comes to mobile photography, pioneered whole new approach to how capture and share best moments.
