  • Alistair 2/29/2012 3:45:49 PM
@Scott I love my Synology server! But Microsoft are taking a step in the right direction here for sure.
  • Josh 2/29/2012 3:46:05 PM
Windows on USB demo blew my mind!
  • Roger Cheng 2/29/2012 3:46:06 PM
Sinofsky says touch is an "and," and not an "or." You don't have to choose between the two.
  • Roger Cheng 2/29/2012 3:46:35 PM
"You choose the form factor, and Windows 8 will follow you," he says.
  • seth.rosenblatt 2/29/2012 3:46:42 PM
Windows to Go is the USB key-hosted W8 I was talking about earlier. Could be killer if they figure out a way to get it to the average consumer.
  • aloysius.low 2/29/2012 3:46:47 PM

    I think he's summing up.

  • Scott Stein 2/29/2012 3:47:15 PM
@Josh I love that Windows 8 is offering so many flexible and actually realistic access options.
  • aloysius.low 2/29/2012 3:47:29 PM
  • Roger Cheng 2/29/2012 3:48:05 PM
Talks about how cloud services can stitch together Windows 8 with Windows Phone and Xbox Live games.
  • aloysius.low 2/29/2012 3:49:04 PM

He's saying we'll be getting a book about Windows 8 consumer preview. (p.s. nice shoes).

  • Alistair 2/29/2012 3:49:15 PM
I want to thank Microsoft for Windows on USB but they purposely made it impossible on older versions to tie the OS to a single computer. It's not a technical feat or anything.
  • Roger Cheng 2/29/2012 3:49:20 PM
General availability update: Windows 8 Consumer Preview today in five languages.
  • Roger Cheng 2/29/2012 3:49:43 PM
You'll see updates to the OS, new drivers from partners, updated preview apps. it'll be a dynamic consumer preview.
  • Roger Cheng 2/29/2012 3:49:58 PM
Windows 8 Enterprise will be shown off at CeBIT.
  • aloysius.low 2/29/2012 3:50:01 PM
  • Roger Cheng 2/29/2012 3:50:27 PM
Says the next milestone is the release candidate, and then RTM, then general availability. No comment on timing of the release.
  • al_k 2/29/2012 3:50:29 PM
So far, I am impressed, it's good to see microsoft getting serious,a nd more agressive with the consumer market at the same time simplifying things across all platforms
  • Roger Cheng 2/29/2012 3:50:47 PM
Windows 8 caused a network hiccup, he says. Notes downloads have occurred in 70 countries.
  • aloysius.low 2/29/2012 3:50:54 PM

The Windows 8 preview is live. You can download it at preview.windows.com

  • Roger Cheng 2/29/2012 3:51:33 PM
    Okay, Sinofsky has wrapped up.
  • Roger Cheng 2/29/2012 3:51:45 PM
That means we're wrapped up too.
  • Roger Cheng 2/29/2012 3:51:51 PM

  • aloysius.low 2/29/2012 3:52:02 PM
Thanks a lot guys. This was fun for me. Was a pleasure working with Roger :)
  • Roger Cheng 2/29/2012 3:52:12 PM
And thanks to Aloysius for the photos, and Scott for moderating.
  • seth.rosenblatt 2/29/2012 3:52:13 PM
MS is currently sticking to a release schedule very similar to Windows 7. No official announcement, but don't be surprised to see an RC around June, RTM around the end of July, and on new hardware in October.
  • Scott Stein 2/29/2012 3:52:51 PM
Thanks, Roger and Aloysius and Seth-- I feel like my head is swimming with all the possibilities here. Thankfully we can all play with the preview.
  • Roger Cheng 2/29/2012 3:53:23 PM
I look forward to downloading the preview when I get back to the states. For now, tapas and wine will have to do.
  • seth.rosenblatt 2/29/2012 3:53:33 PM
From SF, thanks to everybody who chimed in. Now it's on to RSA for me...
