We only heard that "doors would open at 3:30." Once everyone is in, it should begin.
  • Josh Lowensohn 6/18/2012 10:41:06 PM
And the doors are opening up here we go.
  • Josh Bailey 6/18/2012 10:41:18 PM
Think the poll answer is ALL OF THE ABOVE
  • Scott 6/18/2012 10:41:22 PM
Mary Jo has a fancy mic!
  • Kent German 6/18/2012 10:42:03 PM
Thanks, Scott. I forgot to mention that ZDNET Microsoft reporter Mary Jo Foley is joining the pre show via Skype.
  • Josh Lowensohn 6/18/2012 10:42:33 PM

And Seth is pulling double duty as a roadie today.

Eric Franklin, up close and personal.
  • Laughing 6/18/2012 10:43:54 PM
Why on earth would Microsoft think that a press event during the east coast dinner hour at an unknown location with nearly zero notice and late-opening doors would get them good coverage?
  • Kent German 6/18/2012 10:44:33 PM
@Laughing: It's like you were at our news meeting this morning!
  • MrXBob 6/18/2012 10:45:55 PM
@Laughing More secrecy = huge interest. Proven time and time again. The fact that this is going to come out of nowhere means it will hit the ground running no matter what it is. Hopefully it's something good and not a pointless e-reader or another Windows 8 demo
  • Kent German 6/18/2012 10:46:28 PM
This weekend, we heard a rumor that Barnes & Noble would be involved. But then this morning we heard that would not be the case.
  • jennpark86 6/18/2012 10:48:12 PM
was this event for reporters from LA only? anyone from outside the city?
  • Kent German 6/18/2012 10:48:19 PM
Windows Phone news is doubtful since Microsoft is holding another event in San Francisco this Wednesday.
  • Kent German 6/18/2012 10:48:49 PM
@jennapark86: No, our staff came down from San Francisco.
  • Julian Wagner 6/18/2012 10:49:16 PM
Watching it right now from Germany! It's 00:48 here and i'm excited :)
  • Kent German 6/18/2012 10:49:34 PM
@Julian: Thanks for staying up late with us!
  • Eric Franklin 6/18/2012 10:50:39 PM
    I'm in!
  • Eric Franklin 6/18/2012 10:51:11 PM
So far, a long runway stage and lots of blue and purple light
  • Kent German 6/18/2012 10:51:36 PM
Welcome to Eric Franklin. He and Josh Lowensohn will be in the room bringing us the news.
  • Kent German 6/18/2012 10:53:01 PM
We'll have photos from inside shortly as soon as our editors get set up.
  • mikegranito 6/18/2012 10:53:10 PM
Microsoft needs a tablet period. They need to bring Windows RT to bear against the Ipad and a Microsoft Designed and built tablet would be the way to do it.
  • Kent German 6/18/2012 10:53:55 PM
Interesting: Josh says that all the reporters received a card with a time on it. They don't know why.

  • Djm 6/18/2012 10:55:51 PM
Weve seen a dozen iPad killers so far and they have all failed. I hope this isn't a tablet announcement. I would be much happier seeing a tv
  • Kent German 6/18/2012 10:56:06 PM
    @jk: A time later today.
  • Vema 6/18/2012 10:56:22 PM

Not sure if it's by choice, but this place appears to be a bunker in terms of connectivity.
  • Josh Parker 6/18/2012 10:58:34 PM
My money is on a competitor to Google's Project Glass, or something similar in the next-gen hardware field.
  • Robert L 6/18/2012 10:58:53 PM
    Pics or it didn't happen.
  • Kent German 6/18/2012 10:58:55 PM
Everyone: Unfortunately, Microsoft won't allow video during the event. But, we will have an opportunity to get video later. Perhaps that's what the time cards are for.
  • Josh Lowensohn 6/18/2012 10:59:47 PM
  • Eric Franklin 6/18/2012 11:00:00 PM
@Verna I hope it is. Or I hope an Xbox controller/portable xbox tablet deal
  • Eric Franklin 6/18/2012 11:00:08 PM
That would actually get me psyched
  • David Hamilton 6/18/2012 11:00:13 PM
