Nokia's "More" event at Microsoft Build

As the first day of Microsoft Build closes, Nokia will hold an event in San Francisco where it should reveal new Lumia phones and discuss Windows Phone 8.1.

  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:06:35 AM
Clearly, the 930 is a flagship device for us (except in the US).
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:06:48 AM
He pulls out the Lumia 630, green like his shoes.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:06:52 AM
    It's $159!
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:06:59 AM
That's pretty cheap for an unlocked phone.
  • Tim Stevens 4/3/2014 12:07:08 AM
    The shoes match the phone.
And all is right with the world again.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:07:14 AM
It's an amazing offer, he says. The 630 will do really well, because it takes it a step forward.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:07:36 AM
The Lumia 635 is $180 with LTE. That's an amazing price, he says.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:08:04 AM
What you're seeing is investment from operators and handset operator to drive LTE volumes. The 635 will absolutely rock, he says, adding it is breaking price barriers.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:08:09 AM
It's really getting going, he says.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:08:21 AM
Countries like China are increasing investment in LTE, he notes.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:08:25 AM
    New stuff!
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:08:39 AM
He pulls out an orange speaker accessory. Plays music for 15 hours.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:08:44 AM
    It's the Nokia MD12.
  • Josh Miller 4/3/2014 12:08:53 AM
  • Tim Stevens 4/3/2014 12:08:54 AM
These are great looking phones, the 630 and the 635. There isn't often a lot of personality in the low-cost market, and Nokia's definitely got that in spades.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:08:56 AM
Elop: Seriously, that's what it's named. I don't know why.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:09:14 AM
The accessory "accoustically bonds" with the service. It serves as a speaker phone accessory. It'll be $55.
  • Tim Stevens 4/3/2014 12:09:17 AM
Elop already making jokes about Microsoft influence with that decidedly non-engaging name.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:09:31 AM
These phones are the first to run Windows Phone 8.1
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:10:09 AM
With all of this, you're seeing great steps forward with applications and services with Lumia. He talks again about Storyteller, Living Images (think short video clips), etc.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:10:31 AM
It's a great way to bring photos to life, Elop says about Living Images.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:11:11 AM
The sense of momentum around app ecosystem was evident at the keynote, he says.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:11:41 AM
We love seeing that single unified approach to app development, he says.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:11:50 AM
We like seeing the tools that developers are using, he says.
  • Josh Miller 4/3/2014 12:11:54 AM
  • Josh Miller 4/3/2014 12:12:10 AM
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:12:10 AM
He talks about the Nokia Imaging SDK and SensorCore SDK, all mentioned before at the keynote.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:12:27 AM
The Lumia 630 and 635 is driving volume, he says.
  • Josh Miller 4/3/2014 12:12:31 AM
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:12:38 AM
The more devices that are out there, that's a positive thing, he says.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:12:58 AM
Just being in this setting and an environment of feeling what's possible with Microsoft really excites us and gives us hope for the future, he says
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:13:09 AM
There's very little time before we're one company, he teases.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:13:22 AM
    Okay, Q&A time.
  • Tim Stevens 4/3/2014 12:13:27 AM
Stephen is saying he's still "slightly on the outside" regarding his relationship with Microsoft, that's despite his just being granted an executive position.
  • Josh Miller 4/3/2014 12:13:30 AM
  • Josh Miller 4/3/2014 12:13:55 AM
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:14:21 AM
Question: Why does the Nokia 1020 still have the protrusion and larger megapixel? Can we look forward to a photographer-friendly phone?
  • Tim Stevens 4/3/2014 12:14:37 AM
Elop just made a joke about reaching into the wrong pocket, that there are "some things we haven't announced yet." What a tease!
  • Josh Miller 4/3/2014 12:14:41 AM
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:14:54 AM
Elop points at the Lumia 1520 and 930. You're seeing what we can do with a 20 MP camera and optical stabilization and how close it comes to the 41-megapixel of the Lumia 1020.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:15:15 AM
We believe that the broad category of capture and relieve is important. We believe we have to set the bar for highest quality imaging, he says.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:15:21 AM
Truly high quality imaging is important, he says.
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:15:57 AM
When will the Lumia 630 and 635 come to Latin America? In June, Elop says.
  • Josh Miller 4/3/2014 12:16:09 AM
  • Roger Cheng 4/3/2014 12:16:21 AM
    Question: What happened to Flipboard?
