    Welcome, everyone!
  • Jessica Dolcourt 9/5/2012 1:32:47 PM
This is going to be an exciting day for phones. We've got the Nokia/Microsoft press event now, followed by the Motorola/Verizon launch just after.
  • SMFire 9/5/2012 1:32:50 PM
Never been so excited about a launch event ever. Hope Nokia surprises with some excellent announcements. I've sold my Galaxy S2 in anticipation of one of these!!
  • Brian Bennett 9/5/2012 1:33:34 PM
Here we are at Microsoft and Nokia's big morning jam!
  • Jessica Dolcourt 9/5/2012 1:34:03 PM
Kent, Roger, and Brian are getting seated and settled. Brian, what's the scene like there?
  • Kent German 9/5/2012 1:34:12 PM
We're live at Nokia. What would you like to see?
  • Brian Bennett 9/5/2012 1:34:17 PM
Lots of folks here despite the rain too!
  • Brian Bennett 9/5/2012 1:35:19 PM
I get the feeling this will be a big news event. There's a vibe in the air man.
  • Ion 9/5/2012 1:36:06 PM
Is this event all about Nokia and Microsoft? or there would be some extra like for Symbian :)
  • Brian Bennett 9/5/2012 1:36:13 PM
Lots of blue. blue, blue...Nokia blue.
  • Jessica Dolcourt 9/5/2012 1:36:19 PM
@Ion Yep, this is all about Microsoft and Windows Phone for Nokia.
  • Brian Bennett 9/5/2012 1:36:52 PM
Also there are two giant white phone lights at each corner of the stage!
  • Brian Bennett 9/5/2012 1:37:27 PM
Or should I say giant phones that have lights inside...what could they be?
  • Brian Bennett 9/5/2012 1:39:28 PM
It's getting hot, sweaty, and crowded in here....and the club music fits right in.
  • Brian Bennett 9/5/2012 1:40:00 PM
Yep, people are fighting for seats all around me.
  • john.falcone 9/5/2012 1:41:01 PM
There have been plenty of leaks leading up to this event:
  • john.falcone 9/5/2012 1:41:18 PM
Windows Phone 8-based Lumia 920, 820 leak onto the Web:
  • Jessica Dolcourt 9/5/2012 1:41:39 PM
@Brian Bennett Whip out that camera and take a photo!
  • john.falcone 9/5/2012 1:41:46 PM
New Nokia Lumia 920, 820 to feature wireless charging:
  • hockeyduck3 9/5/2012 1:42:51 PM
I hope the rumor for the wireless charging pad was true cause if so wouldn't that be a first?
  • Jessica Dolcourt 9/5/2012 1:43:47 PM
@hockeyduck3 Sort of, not really. Some BlackBerrys have built-in support for Qi inductive charging, which doesn't work that well in my experience. But then again, I never tried it on a BlackBerry.
  • john.falcone 9/5/2012 1:43:48 PM
I believe that the Palm Pre had a wireless, inductive charger
  • mikkop71 9/5/2012 1:46:20 PM
So is this really a crucial moment for Nokia? Some media is reporting that if they fail to amaze, it's end of the story.
  • jaktech 9/5/2012 1:46:26 PM
I'm getting bored with my 4S and since the supposed size of the 5 isn't much larger, I'm looking hard at what will be revealed here today
  • Brian Bennett 9/5/2012 1:46:34 PM
    Yeah, Roger Cheng just arrived!
  • john.falcone 9/5/2012 1:47:00 PM
@mikkop71: Roger Cheng, who's on-site, agrees. Nokia again faces make-or-break point with new Lumia phones:
  • Roger Cheng 9/5/2012 1:47:17 PM
Hey! I slogged through the rain and humidity of Manhattan to get to this event. It better be worth it.
  • Jessica Dolcourt 9/5/2012 1:47:25 PM
@mikkop71 It won't be the end of the story, but it'll make the story that much harder. Nokia must have had some ideas in the hopper from a long time back. This is their chance to put lab ideas into action.
  • john.falcone 9/5/2012 1:48:02 PM
For those who are asking: photos should begin flowing in soon, but the real event won't be starting until 10am ET / 7am PT
  • john.falcone 9/5/2012 1:48:12 PM
You can also click on the link above for a live video stream
  • Roger Cheng 9/5/2012 1:49:11 PM
The Nokia event is bathed in blue light, with large blue signage on stage. That's funny considering the leaked shots we've seen show yellow and red Lumia phones.

  • Brian Bennett 9/5/2012 1:49:59 PM
What Nokia and Microsoft need to do is make the media store stuff fun to use I think.
  • Roger Cheng 9/5/2012 1:50:03 PM
You can expect colors to be a big point of focus for Nokia. The blue version of the Lumia 900 for AT&T actually outsold the black one, so the carriers will likely take a more serious look at colors beyond the boring black and white iterations.
  • Brian Bennett 9/5/2012 1:50:56 PM
All this blue lighting is make me feel really an excited kind of way!
  • Jessica Dolcourt 9/5/2012 1:50:57 PM
One thing I'd definitely mention is not to expect a 41-megapixel camera. A Nokia exec let us down not-too-gently yesterday.
  • Balthasar Schweizer 9/5/2012 1:51:15 PM
Boy I'm excited!! Can't wait to hear about some unannounced WP8 features
  • Jessica Dolcourt 9/5/2012 1:51:44 PM
@Roger Cheng The Lumia 900/800 have taught us to count on Nokia for pops of color, as well as basic black.
  • Andy Tanner 9/5/2012 1:51:51 PM
@mikkop71 They've shown some signs of fragmentation. For example, the pureview coming out that wasn't on a WP device. That tells me they have contingency plans but would probably be a lot happier and calmer if some folks would latch onto the latest, greatest WP devices.
  • Kent German 9/5/2012 1:52:19 PM
Hi folks, Wi-Fi inside the event is a bit spotty. We'll have more photos!
  • Kent German 9/5/2012 1:54:29 PM
@AJ: Roger, Brian and I are at the event. Sarah Tew will have photos. Jessica and John are hosting our live blog from SF and NY respectively.
  • sarahtew 9/5/2012 1:55:03 PM
  • john.falcone 9/5/2012 1:55:07 PM
Looks like the video stream is attempting to flicker to life
  • john.falcone 9/5/2012 1:55:58 PM
To set the stage: the weather here in NY today is... rather disgusting. Overcast, hot, and extremely humid. Just had a quick downpour about 30 minutes ago.
  • Jessica Dolcourt 9/5/2012 1:55:58 PM
Uh oh. Kent has his *serious* face on...
