The graphics chipmaker will talk up its latest efforts in automotive and mobile.

Basically, the system is taking these four camera views and can then process what it sees around it in real time into one full image.

So, it would make sense to take this kind of technology, seeing everything around it, with the image-learning technology from the previous demo to more fully sense everything around the car.

I've covered the past few Nvidia CES press conferences, and I think this might be the most technical I've seen. And the demos are really dragging on.

It's also one of the least newsy. Kind of hard to get excited about "surround vision." Though it does basically turn driving into a video game.
  • Shara Tibken 1/5/2015 5:33:20 AM
(and it does look pretty cool)
  • James Martin 1/5/2015 5:33:41 AM

Essentially, this is providing a lot of specifics for how Nvidia can use Drive PX to help push forward self-driving.
  • Ben Fox Rubin 1/5/2015 5:34:46 AM
The car in this simulation, by the way, can wind through the parking lot and find it's own spot and park itself, then could come back to it's owner when called via smartphone. Kinda cool.
  • Shara Tibken 1/5/2015 5:35:24 AM
Eventually all of this technology will enable self-driving cars.
  • Ben Fox Rubin 1/5/2015 5:35:34 AM
OK, Huang is summarizing the presentation.

Starting with Tegra X1, the step up from Tegra K1. This new chip will help enable Drive PX.
  • Shara Tibken 1/5/2015 5:36:11 AM
It would be amazing if your car could drop you off at the door and then go park itself. haha. I've circled downtown San Francisco for what felt like hours, trying to find parking.
  • Shara Tibken 1/5/2015 5:36:14 AM
    Well, that's it
  • James Martin 1/5/2015 5:36:20 AM
  • Shara Tibken 1/5/2015 5:36:28 AM
This was one of the least newsy Nvidia press conferences. And no big surprises at the end.
  • Shara Tibken 1/5/2015 5:36:37 AM
Lots of futuristic tech and definitely auto heavy.
  • Shara Tibken 1/5/2015 5:37:04 AM
They really started with a bang with the Tegra X1 but ended with a whimper.
  • Shara Tibken 1/5/2015 5:37:17 AM
