  • Chander 3/14/2013 10:50:57 PM
i'm Just gonna have the best of both worlds The iPad Mini and the Samsung Galaxy S IV
  • Mohammed 3/14/2013 10:51:12 PM
iPhones are much more basic and closed source and have much less power though power is not as important with iPhones as all the apps aren't processor intensive. WIth the Galaxies however, due to the open-source android, there are more processor intensive apps and so more power is required
  • William Turner 3/14/2013 10:51:17 PM
Apps library only beats in terms of the number of "tablet" optimized applications. When it comes to phones, then the Apple library doesn't have that much of a lead anymore. But like many Apple users (those that think it takes 9 different accounts to approach the Apple experience), I can see where you'd be confused.
  • John Falcone 3/14/2013 10:51:41 PM
Let me ask this -- are the iPhone fans here gonna be satisfied with a 5S that still looks identical, or will you need a bigger screen?
  • Jessica Dolcourt 3/14/2013 10:52:17 PM
For the show tunes-watchers: If I Loved You. How do I know these?!
  • Roger Cheng 3/14/2013 10:52:37 PM
@john.falcone: I'd be a little annoyed with the bigger screen, but only because I bought the iPhone 5 for the larger display. I admit to a little screen envy every once in a while.
  • RaceBannon 3/14/2013 10:52:53 PM
The GS3 screen is nice, but I've always preferred Apple's . . . the colors look more accurate to me.
  • Evan 3/14/2013 10:52:55 PM
I really enjoy the Samsung phones. I've experienced the note 2. Its amazing I'm definitely buying the s4 no matter what
  • alt230 3/14/2013 10:53:03 PM
I've got a Note II but interested to see what features the GS4 will have, as I'm sure the Note III will benefit from them.
  • Jace 3/14/2013 10:53:09 PM
I switched to the Galaxy S3 last year and I will never go back to the iPhone I love the bigger screen and more free apps available on the market. The NFC tech was one of the sellers for me also I am going to sit the S4 out and wait for the S5 next year because my ATT contract isnt up untill next year.
  • BalouBT 3/14/2013 10:53:21 PM
I've been an Iphone guys since 2008 and have found it difficult to make the change. The hipe surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S4 has captured my interest for a change. If they bring out the metal body then it could capture some iphone fans. What are your thoughts?
  • PSP 3/14/2013 10:53:23 PM
The plastic back..get away from that. It makes the phones so cheap (and bit too light as well). I have never liked the feel of samsung phone and moved away from them almost always due to that fault.
  • Abdulmohsen Alreesh 3/14/2013 10:53:32 PM
so with the recent legal issues between apple and Samsung, are we expecting more lawsuits? in terms of similarities or are they safe for this run?
  • Satinder 3/14/2013 10:53:42 PM
Hi I am due a new upgrade and have at present a 4S which is relegated to being a call phone and I use a Gnote for a pseudo Pc 90% of my work. I was going to get either the note 2 as its good however Xperia Z and HTC one have made me seriously think about down sizing .
  • shivaslives 3/14/2013 10:53:47 PM
I love the topic of Apple playing catch up. They generally put out features that Android phones had 6 - 9 months ago. I remember when Apple was supposed to the innovators.
  • Roger Cheng 3/14/2013 10:54:00 PM
So the balcony seats are starting to fill up...this is going to be a packed house.
  • Jessica Dolcourt 3/14/2013 10:54:13 PM
Myles, the Note 3 will be, what, 6 inches this time? How big is too big? How long before we start deflating and going back the other way?
  • John Falcone 3/14/2013 10:54:27 PM
Heads up, folks: once the event starts, we won't be putting through user comments, so we can focus on the news at hand.
  • Roger Cheng 3/14/2013 10:54:31 PM
Supposedly, Samsung is expecting about 3,000 attendees. That's press, analysts, partners, and likely some hardcore fans.
  • Roger Cheng 3/14/2013 10:54:59 PM
Fortunately, Radio City Music Hall has a lot of seats in the house, including two more balcony levels.
  • Andres Contreras Ramirez 3/14/2013 10:55:15 PM

Okay, the show will begin in five minutes.
  • ThatGuy 3/14/2013 10:55:28 PM
Packed house for unpacked show lol :)
  • MIke_Erie 3/14/2013 10:55:32 PM
What about the problem with Bloatware from the S4? Both from Samsung and from the Carrier? Can you talk about this. I have SO been trying to call! Features will not matter so much with Bloatware.
  • cjray84 3/14/2013 10:55:38 PM
Even if the Galaxy SIII is outselling the iPhone, you have to remember the number of older iPhones on the market. There are so many new Android phones in the pipeline, Galaxy could be the HTC of 2014 if another company knocks it out of the park. You never know.
  • charles.cooper 3/14/2013 10:56:52 PM
Folks, we'll be closing comments in a few minutes as the press conference gets underway. Thanks for all your feedback.
  • sarahtew 3/14/2013 10:56:58 PM
  • Niz 3/14/2013 10:57:30 PM
@john.falcone If the 5s looks like the last 3 iPhones just bigger you know for sure apples lost their game without Steve jibs
  • Jessica Dolcourt 3/14/2013 10:57:34 PM
Aiight, we're about 4 minutes down...
  • Jessica Dolcourt 3/14/2013 10:57:56 PM
Weirdest version of Mack the Knife I've ever heard...flutes?
  • sarahtew 3/14/2013 10:58:04 PM

Shara Tibken snags a shot of Radio City Music Hall's many balconies... still filling up with press...

    I MISS BOL!!!
  • Nancy V 3/14/2013 10:58:29 PM
We have been Iphone users, but I have seriously considered the S3 or S4. As a baby boomer, my fear is that we are not technologically savy enough to handle the Galaxy and be able to utiliize all the features available. The iphone is generally easy to use, although I still have to get my son to figure certain things out for me, just as I do on my computer. I want the S3 or S4, but am afraid it will not be as user friendly as the I phone.
  • Roger 3/14/2013 10:58:34 PM
I honestly enjoy the lightness factor of the plastic body. It still looks good so I prefer the lighter phone. I currently have the Note 1 and the girlfriend has the S3. BOth good phones.
  • Kosta 3/14/2013 10:58:57 PM
    Any thoughts on next Nexus
  • A. Ray 3/14/2013 10:59:14 PM
If the S4 lives up to the hype and rumors I will definitely be leaving Apple; I just feel the only thing missing from Samsung is the aesthetics. Apple has Samsung beat on screen & body and now I feel this is Samsung's to lose.
  • John Falcone 3/14/2013 10:59:23 PM
We could see a new Nexus at Google IO in May. Along with the next version of Android (possibly "Key Lime Pie").
  • Geetesh Singh 3/14/2013 10:59:38 PM
I didn't buy the Note II simply because of it's ginormous size.I'd love to see a 4.5 inch, well built galaxy s4.
  • Roger Cheng 3/14/2013 10:59:53 PM
It looks like people are still settling into their seats -- I have to wonder if this starts on time.
  • thatsthatcrackmusic 3/14/2013 11:00:10 PM
The thing is, my whole family use iphones, I'm the only one on an android handset (The xperia Z) What android will have a hard time defeating Apple is the simplicity of the UI. No matter what, it's undeniable that the iOS UI is extremely simple, literally, my one year old cousin knows how to use it.
  • Roger Cheng 3/14/2013 11:00:26 PM
Leading up to this event has been a steady build-up of hype and anticipation that's really impressed me. Just two and a half years ago, Samsung was a nobody in the smartphone business.
  • Hasan 3/14/2013 11:00:32 PM
The plastic back is Samsung's trademark in a sense. It may feel cheap but if all you are going for is the looks and feel of a phone, stick to the iPhone. I must admit that phone feels rock solid along with the HTC One. I have the Note II and I have very close friends that are diehard Apple fanboys who look past the feel of my phone and are in awe with its features. In the end, features win out.
  • Kevin 3/14/2013 11:00:38 PM
    thanks cnet!
  • Roger Cheng 3/14/2013 11:00:46 PM
Now? They're the undisputed leader in smartphones and the Galaxy S4 has iPhone-level excitement around it.
