Welcome to CNET's Sony E3 press conference liveblog
by john.falcone
My colleagues in L.A. will be signing on soon.
by john.falcone
In the meantime, we can re-hash the E3 news from earlier today.
by john.falcone
Microsoft kicked things off this morning with E3's first press conference
by john.falcone
The highlight was the announcement of "SmartGlass," which is an Xbox-friendly streaming app for multiple devices.
by john.falcone
Think "AirPlay for Xbox."
by john.falcone
Kinect played a center stage at Microsoft's presser as well
by john.falcone
There are also more video channels coming to the 360, as it continues to amp up its non-gaming entertainment chops
by john.falcone
And Xbox is finally getting a full-on web browser
by john.falcone
Gaming-wise, Halo 4 was probably the biggest news.
by john.falcone
So, what do we expect from Sony tonight?
by john.falcone
Thankfully, Jeff Bakalar has already previewed that for us
by john.falcone
If Sony is to believed, they (like Microsoft) already said "no next-gen console announcements at E3 2012"
by john.falcone
That leaves us with: PS Vita, PS3 enhancements, and a bunch of exclusive games
by john.falcone
Like Microsoft, Sony will probably emphasize integration with the wider universe of Sony products (3D TVs, Sony audio/video services, etc.)
by john.falcone
There's also been a persistent rumor over the past week that there may be some sort of announcement re: cloud gaming -- perhaps a link up with On Live or Gaikai. But that's STRICTLY a rumor for now.
by john.falcone
Good point. Sony's motion controller, the Move, has really faded compared to the Kinect.
by john.falcone
Just a reminder: we'll also be liveblogging (and livestreaming) Nintendo's press conference tomorrow at 12 noon ET / 9am PT
by john.falcone
I was a bit surprised that Microsoft didn't announce a price cut for Kinect (still $149). Wonder if we'll see the Vita, PS3, or Move come down in price?
by john.falcone
Evening, all. Just here lurking in the background, keeping tabs.

You're gonna be disappointed if you're looking for PS4 news. Unless Sony has a great headfake on deck.

Hey! Logged on from my phone because Wi-Fi is terrible in here. This is Scott Stein.

Uh-oh. Bad wi-fi = bad news.
by john.falcone
Tonight is a night where the Vita needs a big second dose of relevancy. Second Wave of Games, and new features/apps. It will be the PS3's second screen.
by Scott Stein via mobile
It needs to be.

How's the mood there, Scott?
by john.falcone
A lot like last year. Blue-shirted staff lined up playing what appear to be released games.

MLB The Show, Sorcery, etc.

The video stream should be working now, BTW. Be sure to hit "play."
by john.falcone
The mood is largely, "why does the Wi-Fi suck?"
by Scott Stein via mobile
IF we can resolve our connectivity issues, we'll be posting photos. But the video should work in the meantime.

Outside, a ton of local food trucks entertained the crowds until the mad dash inside

Nice to see it's sunny in L.A. Whenever I went to E3 back in the day, it always seemed to be overcast.
