Sony PlayStation event

Join us for Sony's press conference from New York City, where the PlayStation 4 is widely expected to be officially announced.

  • sarahtew 2/20/2013 11:42:50 PM
  • Roger Cheng 2/20/2013 11:43:05 PM
On immediacy, Sony wants to remove the barrier between the system and your need to play games.
  • Jeff Bakalar 2/20/2013 11:43:09 PM
Really like how they're talking up speed, speed, speed. Anyone with a PS3 knows what it's like to wait and wait and wait.
  • Roger Cheng 2/20/2013 11:43:52 PM
Historically, games used to live in a tower. You play your game, then go back to the real world. Sony wants that game to follow you through your life.
  • Jeff Bakalar 2/20/2013 11:44:09 PM
Philosophically, Sony is nailing it. Casual and mobile gaming is super fast. Eliminating some of the annoying console lag blurs the line a bit.

I will say, between boot up time, logging into your profile, loading a game, then loading a save, deciding to start playing a game on current consoles is really not an impulse decision -- the PS4 promises instant gratification, and that could be a major win.
  • Roger Cheng 2/20/2013 11:44:52 PM
@JeffBakalar: I'm curious to see what the execution is like.
  • sarahtew 2/20/2013 11:44:53 PM
  • Roger Cheng 2/20/2013 11:45:20 PM
They're still running through interviews with a lot of developers talking about what a great platform Playstation is.
  • sarahtew 2/20/2013 11:45:52 PM
  • Roger Cheng 2/20/2013 11:46:08 PM
Sony Worldwide Studio's Michael Denny is now on stage.
  • Roger Cheng 2/20/2013 11:46:28 PM
Denny lays out the ambiguous hype thick, talking about new experiences, synergy between hardware and software, and "unlocking the canvas of new creativity."
  • sarahtew 2/20/2013 11:46:38 PM
  • sarahtew 2/20/2013 11:46:47 PM
  • sarahtew 2/20/2013 11:47:03 PM
  • Jeff Bakalar 2/20/2013 11:47:32 PM
    Killzone?
  • Roger Cheng 2/20/2013 11:47:43 PM
Guerrilla Games exec is on stage to talk about a new game.
  • dan.ackerman 2/20/2013 11:47:50 PM
And... we're starting with sci-fi shooters...been there, done that....
  • dan.ackerman 2/20/2013 11:47:52 PM
Exclusive game time -- here's where the sales pitch really starts.
  • dan.ackerman 2/20/2013 11:48:07 PM
Oh seriously, is this a Killzone game? Talk about leading with the B-team...
  • Roger Cheng 2/20/2013 11:48:20 PM
    Now for Kill Zone: Shadowfall.
  • sarahtew 2/20/2013 11:48:39 PM
  • Roger Cheng 2/20/2013 11:48:40 PM
Well, the game certainly looks spectacular.
  • sarahtew 2/20/2013 11:48:54 PM
  • Jeff Bakalar 2/20/2013 11:48:55 PM
Is this the part where we see another Killzone video that overpromises on visuals? Deja vu!
  • Roger Cheng 2/20/2013 11:49:43 PM
The visuals are slick, but will this be what we actually end up seeing?
  • sarahtew 2/20/2013 11:50:05 PM
  • sarahtew 2/20/2013 11:50:22 PM
  • Roger Cheng 2/20/2013 11:50:49 PM
The main player is walking through this beautifully rendered city, when a massive explosion erupts.
  • sarahtew 2/20/2013 11:50:54 PM
  • sarahtew 2/20/2013 11:51:12 PM
  • Roger Cheng 2/20/2013 11:51:22 PM
The player wakes up in a daze to see the aftermath of the explosion. Again, the visuals are great.
  • sarahtew 2/20/2013 11:51:32 PM
  • Roger Cheng 2/20/2013 11:51:53 PM
Okay, we're on to gameplay, which looks pretty impressive.
  • sarahtew 2/20/2013 11:52:22 PM
  • sarahtew 2/20/2013 11:52:31 PM
  • dan.ackerman 2/20/2013 11:53:17 PM
Ok, looks like a Killzone game... and not that radically different than what the PS3 can do.
  • dan.ackerman 2/20/2013 11:53:27 PM
    Amirite?
  • sarahtew 2/20/2013 11:53:36 PM
  • Jeff Bakalar 2/20/2013 11:53:44 PM
Just so everyone knows, someone is playing this.
  • Roger Cheng 2/20/2013 11:54:05 PM
I wish all my games could be played on a giant screen in the Hammerstein Ballroom.
  • sarahtew 2/20/2013 11:54:13 PM
  • dan.ackerman 2/20/2013 11:54:18 PM
Sorry to harp, but this kind of tiresome same-old-shooter mentality is exactly why people are worried about the future of living room game consoles.
  • Jeff Bakalar 2/20/2013 11:55:01 PM
Can't deny this looks great, but aside from graphics, this has all been done before.
  • Roger Cheng 2/20/2013 11:55:13 PM
That said, I wouldn't mind spending a few minutes playing around with this game...as if Sony would let me.
  • sarahtew 2/20/2013 11:56:10 PM
  • Roger Cheng 2/20/2013 11:56:20 PM
    Sorry, it's "Killzone Shadow Fall."
  • Roger Cheng 2/20/2013 11:56:23 PM
    People loved the trailer though.
  • Jeff Bakalar 2/20/2013 11:56:30 PM
    Here's a racing game...
  • Roger Cheng 2/20/2013 11:56:42 PM
    On to the next trailer.
