Here's the big reveals from the Sony press conference now live on CNET.

Sony has no video at all for this event. Much like a Matrix spoon, there is no stream.
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:15:44 AM
    Good morning everyone!
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:15:47 AM
Or, good evening as it were.
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:16:37 AM
It's complicated, these time zones. But it's 8:16am here in Barcelona, starting off the first day of Mobile World Conference 2014.

Looks like Sony's show is a popular one

  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:17:16 AM
We're inside of Sony's booth in Hall 2 at the Fira Gran Via conference. It's all white, typically Sony, with some colorful swirls around to spice up the proceedings.
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:17:45 AM
Listening to some rather upbeat music. They were just spinning a little Phoenix. A bit more forceful than the Portishead that Huawei was looping yesterday afternoon.
  • Andrew Hoyle 2/24/2014 7:18:42 AM

The conference room is really starting to fill up.

  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:19:28 AM
It's a fairly small space in here, as you can see. Folks are hurriedly finding their seats -- and grabbing some croissant on the way. Sony's put out a nice spread for those of us who were unable to find breakfast on the way in.
  • Andrew Hoyle 2/24/2014 7:21:26 AM

Tim Stevens is your man with the words today

  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:21:39 AM
Got any predictions of what we're about to see today? You can tweet at us and we'll share some of our favorites. I'm @Tim_Stevens and I'll be doing most of the typing. Rich Trenholm is handling updates as well, he's @rich_trenholm. And Andy Holye is on photos, he's @Batteryhq.
  • seamus.byrne 2/24/2014 7:21:49 AM
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:21:55 AM
And yes, that is an orange tie, thank you for asking.
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:22:24 AM
Now we're listening to some Outkast. Anybody know what's cooler than being cool?
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:22:32 AM
We're being told the answer is "ice cold."
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:22:41 AM
Next question: are we going to break this thing down?
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:23:01 AM
Yes, yes apparently we are. Outkast is in need of some sugar, though, to properly break things down.
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:23:31 AM
Now something about shaking instant photographs. I'm not sure but it may be a metaphor for a dance maneuver. We'll continue reporting in as we get information.
  • seamus.byrne 2/24/2014 7:23:37 AM
Careful with those Polaroid pictures, though, Tim. I believe you shouldn't shake them.
  • Alexander Lorenz-Lischewsky 2/24/2014 7:24:13 AM
    Z2 Sirius??
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:24:19 AM
Don't worry, Seamus, I don't make it a policy of shaking much these days.
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:24:31 AM
Okay, and the music just died. A hush falls over the crowd.
  • Andrew Hoyle 2/24/2014 7:24:36 AM

    A wild Rich Trenholm appears!

  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:24:53 AM
All we can hear now is the whirring of a cappuccino machine and the final assembly of some stage booths around us.
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:26:00 AM
Okay, we're back, and it's Depeche Mode spinning now. Getting rather moody in the last five minutes before we begin.
  • seamus.byrne 2/24/2014 7:26:01 AM
There is no video stream of this Sony press conference, folks. You'll have to make do with the dazzling word pictures flowing from Tim's fingertips.
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:26:54 AM
It's art, Seamus. Rich, Andy and I are making magic over here.
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:27:20 AM
"Ladies and gentlemen, please take your seats as the Sony press briefing will commence in five minutes." Set those clocks, folks!
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:27:38 AM
Okay, they killed the Depeche Mode mid-song. Too much of a downer? Anyhow, we're back to some random house music now.
  • Andrew Hoyle 2/24/2014 7:27:43 AM

How many more people can you fit inside one Sony booth? I think we're going to find out.

  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:29:06 AM
Off to the right of the screen there's a gigantic flat-panel display with integrated speakers, which looks somewhat different than the 4K sets we've seen most recently at CES.
  • Andrew Hoyle 2/24/2014 7:29:29 AM

    That's a whopper of a TV!

  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:29:32 AM
And to the right of that is a demo area with a variety of devices discretely covered by black cloth. Illuminated Sony logos shining through.
  • mohmmad yusef 2/24/2014 7:29:54 AM
  • Grief Indoor 2/24/2014 7:30:05 AM
are those xperia cosmic flow on the wall moving?
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:30:09 AM
The stage itself is a simple white affair, with a white dais to the right where, presumably, Kaz Hirai will be staking claim to in the very near future.
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:30:30 AM
"Ladies and gentlemen, please take your seats as the Sony press conference will begin in one minute."
  • John N 2/24/2014 7:30:37 AM
Is that speakers on the tv?
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:30:39 AM
(Now would be a good time to put your phones on mute, everybody.)
  • Alexander Lorenz-Lischewsky 2/24/2014 7:30:39 AM
    z2 please
  • Chris 2/24/2014 7:31:37 AM
C'mon Z2. Give me that gorgeous QHD screen. And let me go to bed happy
  • Andrew Hoyle 2/24/2014 7:31:39 AM

You can practically feel the tension here.

  • Grief Indoor 2/24/2014 7:31:40 AM
look at that stunning, gorgeous TV! wow!
  • OK 2/24/2014 7:31:42 AM
    yes finally
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:31:50 AM
"Ladies and gentlemen, please take your seats as the Sony press briefing is about to commence." Excitement!
