  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:44:11 AM
He's talking about the Z1 now, about how it's "redefined the smartphone" with its camera and "amazing design.
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:44:24 AM
    And here's the Z2!
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:44:35 AM
A smattering of somewhat reluctant applause. Mind, it's still early.
  • Andrew Hoyle 2/24/2014 7:44:43 AM
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:44:48 AM
"At Sony, we believe that details make the difference."
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:45:07 AM
5.2-inch display is here, now, "without increasing size of the phone." There's a new "content discovery UI" with plenty of customizations on top of Android.
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:45:15 AM
"Waterproof of course" with an aluminum frame.
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:45:24 AM
It's slightly more rounded on the edges than the Z1. Looks quite nice.
  • Andrew Hoyle 2/24/2014 7:45:29 AM
  • Andrew Hoyle 2/24/2014 7:46:53 AM
  • Andrew Hoyle 2/24/2014 7:47:10 AM
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:48:06 AM
We're also seeing some augmented reality effects that the camera can manage, such as putting a Spiderman mask on Mr. Suzuki here.
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:48:15 AM
"4K: you know that Sony is very big on 4K. Only Sony delivers the full 4K experience across hardware as a company. And now, Xperia is no exception."
  • Andrew Hoyle 2/24/2014 7:48:20 AM
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:48:26 AM
"So, the best video deserves the best sound. And to enjoy the best sound, you can't disrupt it by surrounding noise."
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:48:59 AM
He's playing the background noise heard on an airplane. "You know, Sony made the world's first digital noise-canceling headphone in 2008." That tech is built in the Z2, now, too, with digital noise-canceling earbuds.
  • Andrew Hoyle 2/24/2014 7:49:10 AM

    Here's one I did earlier

  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:49:17 AM
"With this smart, compact headset, you get up to 98 percent reduction in ambient noise."
  • Andrew Hoyle 2/24/2014 7:49:35 AM
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:49:48 AM
As soon as he put them in the sound of the plane stopped, which got some applause. "Thank you for your hands, it's not a real demonstration, obviously."
  • Andrew Hoyle 2/24/2014 7:50:26 AM
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:50:29 AM
"There is much more to be excited about with our Xperia Z2." The display is trilumious for "vivid colors." That camera is 20.2 megapixel and it has a Qualcomm 2.3GHz Snapdragon chip.
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:50:35 AM
It launches around the world in March.
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:50:48 AM
"Our first Z-series tablet was widely acclaimed."
  • Andrew Hoyle 2/24/2014 7:50:59 AM
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:51:10 AM
"It is still regarded as one of the finest tablets you can buy, but we have taken this excellence one step further."
  • Andrew Hoyle 2/24/2014 7:51:35 AM
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:51:44 AM
And here's the Z2 tablet, which is getting some more excited applause. It's "The worlds thinnest and lightest waterproof tablet for its size." -- which is a lot of caveats, if we're honest.
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:51:56 AM
But, it does look properly thin. "We consider it to be the height of tablet innovation."
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:52:10 AM
It looks very similar to the Z2 smartphone, as you'd expect.
  • Andrew Hoyle 2/24/2014 7:52:18 AM
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:52:30 AM
There's a Bluetooth dock and a remote control, which you can use as a handset. "It's a small idea, but it can work. Interesting."
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:52:41 AM
Who doesn't want to call someone from their remote?
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:53:03 AM
"In addition, both Xperia Z2 and Z2 tablet come with a unique content offer." Basically, a free trial from the Music and Video Unlimited services. Very unique...
  • Andrew Hoyle 2/24/2014 7:53:12 AM

Oh look, here's how thin that new tablet is.

  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:53:15 AM
    It's also launching next month.
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:53:39 AM
"We want to bring our beautiful premium products and the experience to a bigger audience, and so we have this: Xperia M2."
  • Andrew Hoyle 2/24/2014 7:54:12 AM
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:54:29 AM
It is the "best smartphone technology in its class." It's a 4.8-inch device, with an eight megapixel camera and a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon chip. It ships in April and will presumably be a lower-priced device, though we haven't seen any prices at all on any of this.
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:54:37 AM
"These are truly One Sony product."
  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:54:49 AM
"Now, I'd like to invite the person who is leading us as One Sony." It's Kaz Hirai!
  • Andrew Hoyle 2/24/2014 7:55:09 AM

    Have some specs, why not.

  • Tim Stevens 2/24/2014 7:55:15 AM
"Thank you Kuni, and good morning everyone. It's always great to be back at Mobile World Congress. I want to thank everyone for giving me the perfect excuse for visiting beautiful Barcelona."
