    Hi everyone
  • John Falcone 4/29/2014 2:29:23 PM
Welcome to CNET's coverage of Sprint's "Hear it for yourself" event
  • John Falcone 4/29/2014 2:29:48 PM
We have Roger Cheng and Brian Bennett on site in New York City,
  • Roger Cheng 4/29/2014 2:29:54 PM
Hello all, Roger Cheng, executive editor of CNET News, here at the Sprint event in Manhattan.
  • John Falcone 4/29/2014 2:29:58 PM
along with photographer extraordinaire Sarah Tew
  • John Falcone 4/29/2014 2:30:13 PM
The event should start in about 15 minutes.
  • Brian Bennett 4/29/2014 2:30:30 PM
Alright alright! Inside and waking up to pounding beats courtesy of Sprint!
  • sarahtew 4/29/2014 2:30:33 PM
  • Roger Cheng 4/29/2014 2:30:38 PM
It's quite the club atmosphere here, with thumping electronic music playing and a highly active visualizer effect on the front stage.
  • sarahtew 4/29/2014 2:30:41 PM
  • Roger Cheng 4/29/2014 2:30:44 PM
There's a DJ in the corner.
  • sarahtew 4/29/2014 2:30:49 PM
  • Roger Cheng 4/29/2014 2:31:24 PM
It's curious that there's such a party atmosphere, as Sprint just posted some rough results, including a loss of nearly half a million customers.

On Sprint's conference call, CEO Dan Hesse hinted at the Framily plan becoming a platform for innovation and marketing. We'll see what he means by that in the next few minutes.
  • Brian Bennett 4/29/2014 2:32:07 PM
Yeah, the DJ is busting out the tunes big time. I like it.
  • sarahtew 4/29/2014 2:32:26 PM

    Morning DJ.

  • Roger Cheng 4/29/2014 2:32:47 PM
Just to be clear, while it's a party atmosphere all around us, the folks in the seats are all business. Bloggers, reporters, and photographers are all setting up for the conference.
  • sarahtew 4/29/2014 2:33:17 PM

Brian Bennett, Roger Cheng, and Dan Graziano gracing the front row next to me.

  • Brian Bennett 4/29/2014 2:33:28 PM
I think that DJ station with the clear touchscreen is very slick. We see what he sees as he spins.
  • Roger Cheng 4/29/2014 2:33:29 PM
By the way, we're in a studio space on 42nd Street near the Westside Highway in Manhattan.
  • Roger Cheng 4/29/2014 2:34:01 PM
This is a favorite space of Sprint's -- they've used this for several events in the past.
  • Brian Bennett 4/29/2014 2:34:19 PM
@Roger Took a while to get here...and it's snowing even!
  • Roger Cheng 4/29/2014 2:34:32 PM
There looks to be demo rooms that are closed off in the back. Presumably, they'll open up after the presentation ends.
  • sarahtew 4/29/2014 2:34:45 PM

Everyone's still up hovering around the coffee bar.

  • Roger Cheng 4/29/2014 2:34:54 PM
Yes, I was late to the event, but I'm all set and ready to go now!
  • JML 4/29/2014 2:34:58 PM
It's no coincidence this event is happening the same day quarterly results came out. Defection and Obfuscation
  • Roger Cheng 4/29/2014 2:35:11 PM
@JML: Perhaps. People like shiny new things.
  • Roger Cheng 4/29/2014 2:35:33 PM
Oh, and they're serving little breakfast bites. So at least we're being fed.
  • Brian Bennett 4/29/2014 2:35:35 PM
You know I think this is the same event space Sprint used to launch the Evo 4G.
  • sarahtew 4/29/2014 2:36:10 PM

Also, there's a car over there.

  • sarahtew 4/29/2014 2:36:47 PM

Don't even try to sit here.

  • Roger Cheng 4/29/2014 2:36:57 PM
There's presumably going to be some sort of car-related news here. Perhaps a connected car announcement? Or some sort of music service streamed to your car?
  • Brian Bennett 4/29/2014 2:37:05 PM
That would be wild...Sprint unveiling an HTC Evo 4G LTE successor but based on the One M8...hmmm....
  • sarahtew 4/29/2014 2:37:37 PM
  • Roger Cheng 4/29/2014 2:37:41 PM
There have been rumors of a deal to bring Spotify to Sprint. The #sprintmusic hashtag certainly would jibe with that.
  • Roger Cheng 4/29/2014 2:38:58 PM
Most of the crowd appears stoic, but I thought i caught Brian moving his knees to the beat.
  • Roger Cheng 4/29/2014 2:39:16 PM
The base is seriously strong over here...perhaps CEO Dan Hesse's voice will have a similar effect during the presentation.
  • Brian Bennett 4/29/2014 2:39:35 PM
@Roger sorry man, just can't help it!
  • Roger Cheng 4/29/2014 2:39:39 PM
CNET Espanol's Laura Martinez is here. Her comment to the club-mixed hits playing: "They're destroying these songs."
  • Roger Cheng 4/29/2014 2:39:45 PM
But hey, there's a good beat.
  • sarahtew 4/29/2014 2:40:11 PM

    Fancy DJ apparatus.

  • JML 4/29/2014 2:40:22 PM
As has been noted....Sprint is in need of some shiny new things. Let's hope the Spotify opportunity propels the needed movement to get the Framily plans rolling
  • Roger Cheng 4/29/2014 2:41:13 PM
That DJ screen is pretty darn awesome. I'd love a spin on that thing...not that I'm a DJ by any stretch.
