Hello and welcome to T-Mobile's Uncarrier 5 event!
  • Kent German 6/19/2014 12:32:31 AM
CNET's team of live bloggers, Jessica Dolcourt and Roger Cheng, have arrived at Paramount Theater and are getting situated. James Martin is already bringing you the photos. Lots of magenta, as you can see.

    What is 5.0
  • Kent German 6/19/2014 12:33:20 AM
@ric: The 5.0 means that this is the 5 "Uncarrier" event that T-Mobile has held.
  • Kent German 6/19/2014 12:33:47 AM
It started last year when it ditched contracts completely.

It's been a busy day to tech journalists in Seattle. Just this morning, Amazon announced its long-rumored Fire Phone. We have all of the details in our Amazon Fire Phone First Take.
  • Kent German 6/19/2014 12:39:39 AM
Fun fact: T-Mobile's event was originally scheduled to take place on Hollywood, but the company moved it to Seattle (T-Mobile's hometown) after Amazon scheduled its event.
  • Kent German 6/19/2014 12:40:25 AM
The original Hollywood location may be a clue that tonight's announcements will have an entertainment theme. We'll have to see.
  • Jesse Tinoco 6/19/2014 12:40:36 AM
Is there a link to watch live

@JesseTinoco: T-Mobile will be streaming the event once it starts. Refresh your browser if you don't see that player at the top of your screen.

I hope they do away with taxes and fees ala metrics
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/19/2014 12:42:35 AM

Roger in the lap of live show luxury. We each get one if these seats to ourselves.

  • Eric 6/19/2014 12:42:51 AM
    More LTE!
  • Kent German 6/19/2014 12:43:14 AM
    @Eric: We wouldn't refuse that!
  • SC Gladstone 6/19/2014 12:43:25 AM
Something tells me that after this week's tweets John Legere is going to be absolutely insane! Going to be great!
  • Kent German 6/19/2014 12:43:40 AM
    @SCGladstone: A good guess.
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:44:08 AM
Hey all! Roger Cheng, executive editor of CNET News, finally in and logged on!
  • Kent German 6/19/2014 12:44:32 AM
AT&T CEO Ralph de la Vega was at Amazon's event earlier today. Maybe he'll crash this party?
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:44:44 AM
This is the second of back-to-back press conferences today, the earlier being the debut of the Amazon Fire Phone.
  • Kent German 6/19/2014 12:44:57 AM
    Welcome, Jessica and Roger.
  • ric 6/19/2014 12:45:06 AM
I'm here in Seattle on vacation and I see all these people across from my hotel can I join the party
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/19/2014 12:45:12 AM

    Throngs of screaming T-Mobile employees.

  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/19/2014 12:45:22 AM
It's LOUD in here! But at least we get our own big, comfy chairs.
  • Woolie 6/19/2014 12:45:24 AM
They are sure making a big deal about this
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:45:29 AM
While the Amazon had a fair bit of buzz, the atmosphere at the T-Mobile event is insane. It helps T-Mobile brought in loads of employees to cheer and scream at the back.
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:46:03 AM
The employees have pink cowboy hats (a tribute to T-Mobile CFO Braxton Carter, who often rocks one), feather boas, and other interesting accessories.
  • steve8558 6/19/2014 12:46:04 AM
    Looking forward to this!
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:47:03 AM
The Uncarrier 5.0 event is being held at the historic Paramount Theater in Seattle. They've cleared away the traditional seats in the front and gave the press some cushy leather seats -- complete with power!
  • swag 6/19/2014 12:47:03 AM
Any ideas of what will be revealed?
  • James Martin 6/19/2014 12:47:11 AM
  • James Martin 6/19/2014 12:48:00 AM
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:48:09 AM
There's reason for these folks to be excited, local music sensation Ryan Lewis and Macklemore will be performing later tonight.
  • James Martin 6/19/2014 12:48:13 AM
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:48:38 AM
As you remember, T-Mobile CEO John Legere made headlines when he crashed an AT&T party featuring the group.
  • SC Gladstone 6/19/2014 12:48:42 AM
So Roger or Jessica have to take a tequila shot for every F bomb JL drops in speech LOL
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/19/2014 12:48:52 AM

Roger and James, maxing and (not quite) relaxing.

  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:49:08 AM
@SCGladstone: I would but I don't think I'd make it through the presentation.
  • James Martin 6/19/2014 12:49:15 AM
  • Kent German 6/19/2014 12:49:18 AM
@SCGladstone: Not sure that's a good idea. We need them to live blog!
  • Mac Graham 6/19/2014 12:49:28 AM
Will there be live calling with cnet?
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:49:37 AM
Wow...it looks like T-Mobile pumped up the volume for everything here. The intensity is high.
