T-Mobile's Uncarrier 5.0 event

T-Mobile's Uncarrier 5.0.

  • James Martin 6/19/2014 12:49:43 AM
  • Kent German 6/19/2014 12:49:54 AM
@MacGraham: We don't have a live show for this event. Check back next week for Google I/O.
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:50:25 AM
So T-Mobile had to do a little last-minute scrambling, changing their event from LA to Seattle when Amazon decided to hold its event the same day.
  • James Martin 6/19/2014 12:50:34 AM
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:50:42 AM
T-Mobile's big music act if it had stayed in LA? Avicii and Usher. Oh, what could have been.
  • Cruznews 6/19/2014 12:51:35 AM
Wish I was there! Looks like it's going to be fun!
  • Rolphy 6/19/2014 12:52:00 AM
    I hope its something big
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/19/2014 12:52:22 AM
Roger, dannnng. I really wish I hadn't known that. At least they're giving the local boys a good homecoming, though.
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:52:22 AM
While the theater has an historic and majestic look to it, the front has been changed out with a large digital display awash in T-Mobile magenta.
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:52:33 AM
On the screen are tweets and comments from T-Mobile customers.
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:53:03 AM
I kinda wish it was still in LA too...my folks are from there!
  • James Martin 6/19/2014 12:53:04 AM
  • Cruznews 6/19/2014 12:53:10 AM
I think Shakira would have been the guest in LA since she's down there for The Voice and she's paid by T-Mobile to make appearances. ;-)
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:53:25 AM
@Cruznews: Nope. But Usher and Avicii would have been great.
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/19/2014 12:53:27 AM
Cruznews, right now it's less "fun" and more frenetic! But we'll do our best ; )
  • Xiomara 6/19/2014 12:53:34 AM
Those are iconic Barcelona chairs by Mies van der Rohe, in case anyone is wondering/wants to buy me one
  • Kent German 6/19/2014 12:53:40 AM
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:53:47 AM
@Xiomara: Thanks! They're quite comfortable and spacious. No bumping elbows here!
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:54:17 AM
Every once in a while the T-Mobile employee section screams -- they're directed by their social manager.
  • #1mobile employee 6/19/2014 12:54:19 AM
Wait so this is not cast live like it says above so we can not watch it?
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:54:22 AM
    They're doing the wave.
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/19/2014 12:54:25 AM
There are seriously girls with boas and tiaras in the crowds. I have to wonder if they were asked to dress up or if they're just stoked for the Macklemore and Ryan Lewis concert.
  • Kent German 6/19/2014 12:54:34 AM
@#1mobileemployee: The live stream will start when the event begins.
  • James Martin 6/19/2014 12:54:35 AM
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:54:37 AM
Will the announcements match this intensity? We'll see.
  • Jason 6/19/2014 12:54:40 AM
I really hope that T-Mobile announces more markets. I really REALLY want to switch to them, but they don't cover anywhere near me.
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/19/2014 12:54:50 AM
Looking around, not many people here seem to be press, in fact.
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:55:00 AM
@Jason: That has been a key weakness for T-Mobile. The breadth of their coverage still lags behind Verizon and AT&T.
  • JoeB 6/19/2014 12:55:05 AM
any other music artists showing up?
  • Kent German 6/19/2014 12:55:20 AM
    @JessicaDolcourt: Amazon zapped everyone's energy.
  • Matt 6/19/2014 12:55:38 AM
Looking forward to it!! I hope that it will be more than one pain point like it was back at CES with 4.0!
  • shravanblogger 6/19/2014 12:56:16 AM
I think this will be an app to unlock your phone
  • James Martin 6/19/2014 12:56:17 AM
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:56:18 AM
Yes, it has been a long day...I'm ready to collapse.
  • Milo 6/19/2014 12:56:21 AM
Speaking of Amazon, what did you guys think? 3D features something you'd use or just a gimmick?
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:57:33 AM
@Milo: I thought the implementation of the 3D imaging was better than I expected, but there are still few practical uses for it. I can see it being much more useful down the line.
  • daddy0702 6/19/2014 12:58:15 AM
Can't wait for the smack talk.
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:58:24 AM
Wow, the T-Mobile folks in the back are deafening with their cheers. This is NOT the usual press conference.
  • shravanblogger 6/19/2014 12:58:32 AM
Tmobile is striking the right cords with such events... Carriers need more public and media interaction..
  • SC Gladstone 6/19/2014 12:58:37 AM
3D phone screens 2010 where 3D was all that launched and quickly no longer launched hahahahahaa
  • James Martin 6/19/2014 12:58:57 AM
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:59:00 AM
@SCGladstone: I have to say, the 3D effect with the Fire Phone is much, much better than the Evo 3D or Thrill.
  • rb 6/19/2014 12:59:26 AM
@Roger - that comfy big lounge chair prob doesn't help either
  • Roger Cheng 6/19/2014 12:59:38 AM
@rb: I could definitely take a nap on this thing right now.
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/19/2014 1:00:19 AM
You know what would make this Barcelona chair even better? A nice cold cocktail.
