I really thought I misheard the $999 Pro Display stand price. Nope.

Federighi says iTunes started super focused as rip, mix, burn. Then it took on iTunes store, podcasts, radio, and syncing your iPod and iPhone. "Now, customers love iTunes and everything it can do. But if there's one thing we hear over and ver, it's 'Can iTunes do even more?'""

Federighi is now joking about integrating Calendar, Mail and Safari into the app. And giving it its own doc.

Of course, as rumored, Apple is splitting iTunes into three apps.

(I wonder what happens to iTunes on windows?)
  • Scott Stein 6/3/2019 6:46:12 PM
iTunes is "gone," but the music stuff is in the Music app.
  • James Martin 6/3/2019 6:46:39 PM

Phones will sync (if you want) in MacOS finder. Thank god.
  • Ian Sherr 6/3/2019 6:47:07 PM
Federighi says syncing for iPhones have moved to the Finder -- not iTunes.

Music is a music app. I don't need to explain that do I?
    Podcasts? Yeah, you get it.

Great idea, finally pulling the plug on the "iTunes" name, which was just too heavy with history. And instead breaking the key features into the most relevant apps, without too much extra junk.

Apple TV app on Mac seems nice. iTunes as video repository was totally painful.
  • Ian Sherr 6/3/2019 6:48:17 PM
The apps do have an iTunes-ish feel, which I guess all Apple Mac Apps do to some degree.

The new Apple TV app is basically like the TV app on the iPad.

New feature: Sidecar. You can use an iPad as a second display for the Mac (something app devs have been offering for quite a while.)

Apple's going after Wacom tablets too, offering similar functionality.

Hey now- Sidecar in MacOS Catalina allows iPad to be Mac second display. Pencil will be supported, wired/wirelessly. (Third party apps have done this, but this might perform far better.)
  • Ian Sherr 6/3/2019 6:49:49 PM
Now on to assistive tech (only 10 min left!)

New feature: Voice control. Allow you to control a Mac entirely with your voice. Same with iOS.
  • James Martin 6/3/2019 6:50:06 PM
  • Scott Stein 6/3/2019 6:51:19 PM
Voice Control is a complete voice operated interface, allows complete browsing and operation w voice. That is really cool. Mac/iOS.

We get a video that's pretty nifty -- showing how the screen can be broken into grids and options into numbers so you can basically choose things by speaking numbers and commands.
  • Scott Stein 6/3/2019 6:51:49 PM
Voice Control uses iOS attention awareness.

Yikes, this offline Bluetooth beacon that other Apple devices can see/track is straight up sci-fi spooky.
  • James Martin 6/3/2019 6:53:01 PM
  • Scott Stein 6/3/2019 6:53:02 PM
FindMy is a combo device-finding and friend-finding Mac/IOS app. Finds devices when off via Bluetooth beacon! Encypted and anonymous (This beacon isn't embedded in my friends yet, is it?)
  • Ian Sherr 6/3/2019 6:53:12 PM
Also, another Rumor that lands correctly: Find My iPhone and Find My Mac getting rebranded as Find My.

It can even find misplaced devices. The Mac will relay a secure bluetooth beacon. "It's just tiny bits of data that piggyback on existing network traffic"

Also, bringing activation lock to Mac -- all of the devices with the T2 chip.
  • James Martin 6/3/2019 6:53:50 PM
  • Ian Sherr 6/3/2019 6:53:53 PM
    here's Apple's doc on T2 --

    iMac Pro
Mac mini models introduced in 2018
MacBook Air models introduced in 2018
MacBook Pro models introduced in 2018 or later

Screen Time is also coming to the Mac.
