Files updates: now has column view to add better drilling down into file categories. Supports iCloud Drive folder sharing now.

The mail app works with this new system too. It's hard to explain, but the bottom line is that Apple's trying to make it more desktoo-like, and less "modal" -- so you don't have to feel like you're *writing an email* then switch back to your inbox, etc.

Nice. Thumb drive support for iPad, will go into Files app. Can import photos to Lightroom.
  • James Martin 6/3/2019 6:09:24 PM
  • Ian Sherr 6/3/2019 6:09:41 PM
The Files App also has changes. It works with USB thumb drives, and can import photos to Lightroom (two crowd pleasers)

Safari on iPad: will be desktop capable!

Ok, I like this -- I hate getting the mobile website on an iPad, when I easily get the desktop version on, say, an 11-inch laptop.
  • James Martin 6/3/2019 6:10:42 PM
  • Ian Sherr 6/3/2019 6:10:44 PM
Federighi also says Safari on iPad will have "Desktop-class browsing" -- instead of the mobile site, you get the desktop site. Works for Google docs, Squarespace and WordPress.

Also bringing a download manager, shortcuts, tab sets and more.
  • Scott Stein 6/3/2019 6:10:45 PM
I need to see how desktop class the browser is. Had download manager. New keyboard shortcuts.

Although, what will that do to the desktop/mobile browser split, if a huge amount of iPad traffic gets shifted back to Desktop view?
  • James Martin 6/3/2019 6:11:19 PM
  • Scott Stein 6/3/2019 6:11:26 PM
This “desktop class browser” news for iPad is my new favorite news of the day

Man, remember when iOS didn't even support cut-and-paste?
  • James Martin 6/3/2019 6:12:23 PM
  • Ian Sherr 6/3/2019 6:12:27 PM
They are blowing through these changes quick.

New Fonts, easier copy-paste actions and undo using three fingers (pinch to cut, spread to paste, swipe to undo)
  • Scott Stein 6/3/2019 6:12:40 PM
Copy and paste with pinching and expanding fingers. Swipe to undo. That would be an interesting gesture for an AR headset

Apple Pencil shrinks latency to 9ms. If you felt it was latent, well good news

Federighi moves on to Apple Pencil. Says it's already among the best in the industry, but now bringing that latency from 20 ms to 9 ms.

It's also easier to mark up anything on an app by dragging your Pencil from the bottom corner of the iPad screen.

And you can move the cursor on the keyboard literally by tapping on it and moving it on the screen.

These gestures for editing are fine but you know what would be really nice? Trackpad support on iPad

No trackpad support for iPadOS. Boo
  • Ian Sherr 6/3/2019 6:17:55 PM
Cook back on stage -- now time to turn back to the Mac.
  • dan.ackerman 6/3/2019 6:17:57 PM
Wait, is iPadOS starting out with vers 1.0? Like iOS 13 and iPadOS 1?
  • James Martin 6/3/2019 6:17:59 PM
  • Ian Sherr 6/3/2019 6:18:16 PM
Cook: "We have the strongest Mac lineup we've ever had."

It’s 12 inch MacBook time! Just kidding. It’s Mac Pro time

Let's be honest, this is what we all came here for.
