AirPods Pro will also have spatial audio, Apple says
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:43:21 PM
    (So basically supporting Atmos?)
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:43:55 PM
Spacial audio, it's really the same thing as a TV soundbar with simulated surround sound. It actually works pretty well.
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:44:25 PM
Oh, I like the idea of the gyroscope mapping the sound field, that's really awesome.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:44:54 PM
Ah, yes, supports Dolby Atmos after all
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:45:12 PM
45  mins in, no hardware yet.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:45:27 PM
Ok, now the fitness center and we hear from Kevin Lynch, VP of Technology at Apple (and Apple Watch guru)
  • Sarah Tew 6/22/2020 5:45:28 PM
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:45:39 PM
Oh, these are all kinds of nooks of the Apple Campus I've never seen in person.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:45:50 PM
"The power of Apple Watches is not only its built in features, but how developers have personalized it for you," Lynch says
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:45:51 PM
Lots of bikes and kettle bells.
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:46:21 PM
Ok, so I was a smartwatch naysayer -- sticking with my semi-fancy analog watch for many, many years.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:46:36 PM
Now, Lynch says you can create multiple complications for a watch face
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:46:58 PM
Then I got an Apple Watch for my birthday a couple of years ago -- not something I even considered ever buying for myself -- and now I'm hooked.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:47:17 PM
With WatchOS 7, you can share watch faces (but not a watch face store persay)
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:47:20 PM
That said, really just for getting text messages and, yes, Slack messages.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:47:26 PM
Still no LCARS watch face :(
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:47:57 PM
So, this is not the fables "Watch Face Store," but just a way to share existing ones that you haven't downloaded yet.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:48:08 PM
"It's a great way for the community of Apple Watch Where's to connect and help each other discover all the amazing things Apple Watch is capable of," Lynch says
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:48:19 PM
I mean, really. A true Watch Face storefront is literally a license to print money.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:48:26 PM
Now, he's going over many of the Maps changes from iOS 14 coming to Apple Watch
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:48:39 PM
Like how song-based ringtones made a shocking amount of money for people in the early 2000s.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:49:15 PM
Now Julz Arney - Senior Project Manager for Fitness Experiences -- Talking about dance options
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:49:28 PM
Scott! I'm looking forward to your video demoing the dance tracking!
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:49:53 PM
"Getting the most accurate credit for dance presented a unique challenge" -- and now we learn Julz can dance
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:50:23 PM
Apple's also added new workout settings and a new activities settings
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:50:54 PM
And the activity app is now being called "Fitness" -- and we get our first dad-laugh worthy joke of Kevin Lynch attempting to dance
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:51:10 PM
Now to Vera Carr, manager of health software
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:51:17 PM
Sleep tracking -- definitely a highly requested feature.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:51:25 PM
    She's talking about sleep tracking.
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:51:33 PM
But, will I have to decide between sleep tracking and watch charging?
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:51:47 PM
Unless the sleep mode is some kind of super-low-power mode.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:51:50 PM
Getting to bed on time is hard, she says (yes, true), so Apple will have a new feature called Wind Down
  • Sarah Tew 6/22/2020 5:52:13 PM
  • Sarah Tew 6/22/2020 5:52:16 PM
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:52:18 PM
ahead of bedtime, phone will start showing a "Wind Down screen" that turns on do not disturb and takes away a lot of views
  • Sarah Tew 6/22/2020 5:52:19 PM
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:52:34 PM
Plug for the "Calm" app, which is buying a *lot* of TV ads lately.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:52:38 PM
    Watch and phone will dim
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:53:05 PM
Trust me. A "taptic" alarm ain't waking me up.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:53:17 PM
If you use sleep tracking with the watch, it'll tell you your battery life when you wake up, so you can charge in the morning
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:53:38 PM
Dan, I also am a crazy hard sleeper -- used to be light sleeper and then I had kids
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:53:52 PM
"You'll enjoy using your watch through the day and now at night." But when will I charge it?!?!?
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:53:56 PM
Ooh, and Apple Watch will have a hand-washing coach
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:54:06 PM
Ok, Apple Watch, don't judge my handwashing.
