If you pause too early, it'll remind you, because we all suck at this and Apple knows it
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:54:35 PM
I've already been living with my mother for the past three months. I get enough hand-washing reminders.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:54:46 PM
    Now back to Federighi
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:55:02 PM
BTW, just sharing, my one request -- a "I'm Sick" option -- still not there :(
  • Sarah Tew 6/22/2020 5:55:13 PM
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:55:13 PM
(We're all at social distancing up in the country, multi-generations style).
  • Sarah Tew 6/22/2020 5:55:15 PM
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:55:15 PM
just so the watch doesn't keep telling you to move when you're stuck in bed
  • Sarah Tew 6/22/2020 5:55:16 PM
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:55:43 PM
Ok, on to privacy -- "Privacy matters now, more than ever,"  Federighi says. "And because our devices contain our most sensitive information, all of our product work is grounded in a set of privacy principles."
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:55:49 PM
Apple will respect your privacy, but judge your hand-washing.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:56:08 PM
Among them: data minimization (not collecting too much), device intelligence (not having to send data to the cloud) and transparency/control
  • Sarah Tew 6/22/2020 5:56:33 PM
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:56:37 PM
Federighi says for example, people have created 200 million accounts using Sign in with Apple
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:56:50 PM
And users are 2x more likely to use Kayak when they use it, which is interesting
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:57:10 PM
and you can convert a "Sign in with Apple" account into a normal one, Apple says
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:57:18 PM
Katie Skinner -- Privacy software manager
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:57:34 PM
Now, you can share approximate location with apps instead of pinpoint

  • Sarah Tew 6/22/2020 5:57:40 PM
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:57:44 PM
This is great. Apple sign-in is pretty useful and feels more privacy-friendly than all the individual accounts you'd usually need.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:58:17 PM
Tracking control as well -- "we believe tracking should be transparent" -- including telling apps they have to warn you when they track you across websites (Hello, Facebook and Google)
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:58:45 PM
Apple's also asking developers to self-report data they collect on you. It'll be on product pages in the app store
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:58:53 PM
We're asking developers to "self-report" how they use your data. Hmmm....
  • Sarah Tew 6/22/2020 5:59:40 PM
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 5:59:53 PM
    Now, talking about Home features
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 5:59:55 PM
Smart home -- this is where we could really move the ball down the field a bit.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:00:15 PM
"When things are easy, private and work together seamlessly, your home is more enjoyable,"  Federighi says
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:00:46 PM
I was an early adopter of smart bulbs, etc. Lots of great stuff there, but competing ecosystems make it hard to get everything to work together seemlessly.
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:01:01 PM
Ah, starting with interoperability talk, which is really the key.
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:01:36 PM
One hour in. All software so far.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:02:16 PM
Home app will now have adaptive lighting for smart lightbulbs
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:03:01 PM
Boy, facial recognition to front-door cameras.
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:03:15 PM
Is that where the national mood is right now?
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:03:29 PM
And face recognition will now work with cameras -- using faces tagged in the photos app
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:04:49 PM
Honestly, Apple Arcade but a regular game controller is pretty sweet. Lots of good stuff there.
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:05:20 PM
But with new living room consoles coming this fall, gamer attention is likely to be shifted elsewhere.
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:05:41 PM
    What is this, Foundation?
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:05:50 PM
Apple's going over how Apple TV app is coming to Vizio and Sony TVs soon. Already have it on my Roku TV. And a new show: Foundation
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:05:58 PM
    Ah, nice. I'd watch that.
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:06:24 PM
Foundation! Dude, what other big old sci-fi book series can we adapt?
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:06:29 PM
Based on novels from Isaac Asimov
  • Sarah Tew 6/22/2020 6:06:34 PM
  • Sarah Tew 6/22/2020 6:06:39 PM
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:07:25 PM
    Foundation is coming in 2021
