They're making it feel very Game-of-Thrones-like.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:07:54 PM
    Now talking about MacOS
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:08:12 PM
    Uh oh, "Big Changes" warning.
  • Sarah Tew 6/22/2020 6:08:26 PM

Federighi says the new MacOS name is Big Sur
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:09:14 PM
He promises it brings you "unmatched levels of power and beauty"
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:09:17 PM
Is this a mountain thing again? Maybe it's because I'm an East Coast guy -- I never get these.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:09:28 PM
and promises the biggest design changes since OS X
  • Sarah Tew 6/22/2020 6:09:36 PM
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:09:38 PM
Alan Dye -- VP of human interface no on video
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:10:09 PM
Best new thing in MacOS in years has been fingerprint reader.
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:10:41 PM
Gestures have always ruled, no Windows device comes close, and they've had, what, 15 years to try and catch up?
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:11:02 PM
The new look seems a lot more iOS-like, though it's still a Mac, I'm sure
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:11:31 PM
But, with more computer tasks being web/cloud-based, the features of a specific OS matter less. Gmail is gmail. Netflix is Netflix.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:11:38 PM
"We love the Mac, it's the tool we use to make all the products that we put out into the world," Dye says
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:12:08 PM
New App icons are much more cartoony, it seems.
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:12:20 PM
What's he using? Big expensive Apple Pro monitor. Anyone see what it's plugged into? Mac Mini? Mac Pro under the podium?
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:12:42 PM
@Dan, or the rumored new iMac?
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:12:46 PM
Confession -- I never use on-board mail apps on computers -- just browser-based mail.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:13:18 PM
Apple says it's refreshed the look of all the apps in the system
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:13:18 PM
I do use Notes a lot.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:13:45 PM
The menubar is now translucent  -- and the menu bar items are more iOS-like
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:14:15 PM
There's even control center in the Mac (stop me when you feel like quoting Tim Cook saying how the Mac and iPad will never merge)
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:14:31 PM
Great to have on-screen display options like that. One of the only things I use the Touch Bar for is tweaking screen brightness.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:14:45 PM
Notifications are grouped together now too, which is very iOS like
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:14:57 PM
You know what's really good for going through notifications easily? A touchscreen.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:15:01 PM
(For the next 5 min, let's play a game and end everything I say with "very iOS-like")
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:15:14 PM
    Notes. World Clock. Reminders List
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:15:33 PM
Update for Messages on the Mac
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:15:34 PM
    Very iOS-like, Ian. ;)
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:15:49 PM
Man, I do love Messages on MacOS.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:15:56 PM
Federighi says this year better search ("very iOS-like") and Memoji
  • Sarah Tew 6/22/2020 6:16:04 PM
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:16:07 PM
    No Windows-plus-smartphone integration comes close.
  • Sarah Tew 6/22/2020 6:16:10 PM
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:16:10 PM
Messages effects coming too, and pinned conversations
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:16:24 PM
Basically, iOS apps now more iOS-Like on Mac
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:16:35 PM
    Wait, we're back to Maps!
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:17:00 PM
Squints eyes. Looks mostly the same to me.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:17:03 PM
But with the Mac versions, many more features -- just like how iPhone has a set of features, iPad has more visual features and now Mac has even more
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:17:22 PM
I do like the 360-degree pics on Apple Maps.
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:17:28 PM
"The Mac gets all the other new features we just announced on iOS 14"
  • dan.ackerman 6/22/2020 6:17:51 PM
This must be the "Developers" part of WWDC. ;)
  • Ian Sherr 6/22/2020 6:18:13 PM
Now talking about Catalyst -- the technology that brings iPad apps to Mac. Among them, making it easier to create keyboard controls, photos editing extensions, universal purchase, etc
