Hello everybody! It's almost time for the Verizon Keynote to begin!
  • Lynn La 1/9/2013 12:16:05 AM
I'm here as a moderator, but our livebloggers, Casey Newton and Jessica Dolcourt are just settling in.
  • Casey Newton 1/9/2013 12:16:26 AM
We're here live inside the Palazzo Balroom at the Venetian.
  • James Martin 1/9/2013 12:16:47 AM
  • Casey Newton 1/9/2013 12:16:53 AM
Jazz music is playing in the background as people fill in.
  • David Hamilton 1/9/2013 12:17:46 AM
Welcome, everyone! Comments are open, though we'll scale them back during the presentation itself. All comments are moderated.

We've been told not to expect new devices at this keynote. It will be interesting to see how Verizon's CEO, Lowell McAdam, fills his time.
  • Casey Newton 1/9/2013 12:18:35 AM
McAdam became Verizon's CEO and Chairman on Jan. 1, 2011. That makes this his first CES keynote as CEO.
  • James Martin 1/9/2013 12:18:38 AM
  • Jessica Dolcourt 1/9/2013 12:18:41 AM
See that photo below? James Martin took it using the Samsung Galaxy Camera on Verizon, then almost instantly uploaded the pic using Scribble Live. Booyeah! Connected devices of the future are here :)
  • James Martin 1/9/2013 12:19:09 AM
  • David Hamilton 1/9/2013 12:19:37 AM
@Casey Maybe he'll invite in some customers to discuss the future of wireless! Leveraged in context, of course.
  • James Martin 1/9/2013 12:19:38 AM
  • NTAPIAS 1/9/2013 12:19:46 AM
Is there going to be any live stream?
  • Jessica Dolcourt 1/9/2013 12:21:06 AM
So there's this nice press section front and center, but Casey and I are camped out on an aisle elsewhere to accommodate his incredibly long legs.
  • Casey Newton 1/9/2013 12:22:01 AM
There will not be live video of the event.
  • Casey Newton 1/9/2013 12:22:05 AM
My legs will have their own keynote later in the show.
  • James Martin 1/9/2013 12:22:19 AM
  • TrevorArmel 1/9/2013 12:22:21 AM
According to Verizon's CES site, it looks like they'll start streaming in 18 minutes. Here's the link: news.verizonwireless.com

I think it will be live. Not supposed to start for a few yet...
  • Casey Newton 1/9/2013 12:25:09 AM
What do you guys want to hear from McAdam during this event?
  • James Martin 1/9/2013 12:25:32 AM

I'd like to hear that my true unlimited service will last forever! (thankyou Alltel)
  • Jessica Dolcourt 1/9/2013 12:29:46 AM
We're definitely going to hear about Verizon's milestones with LTE and how they're ahead of everyone else (they are.)
  • Jessica Dolcourt 1/9/2013 12:30:51 AM
I'm also expecting future plans for voice over LTE and LTE advanced. McAdam isn't expected to show off any new devices on-stage, unfortunately. There's nothing like a curve ball to stir things up.
  • Jessica Dolcourt 1/9/2013 12:31:52 AM
The room is now packed, but this slow jazz is ruining the groove. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I want my frenetic trade show techno that proves companies are edgy and cool.
