Oh whoa, he's using a dual-core device, which I would love to see.

  • Lynn La 6/20/2012 4:48:16 PM
"Get this kid away from me... CATCH!"
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/20/2012 4:48:19 PM
His demo slate isn't a Surface device, just a Samsung Win 8 tablet. Because Surface slates are still in LA.

I'm not sure I'm personally sold on Metro on a tablet. It's colorful, yes, but also blocky. I think it would be easy to overload your eyes.
  • Lynn La 6/20/2012 4:49:08 PM
To adjust size: Looks like you press and hold to start customizing (like before).
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/20/2012 4:49:12 PM
The resize arrow is what helps you resize on the fly. No going into settings menus and all that jazz.
  • josh.miller 6/20/2012 4:49:18 PM
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/20/2012 4:49:42 PM
I'd totally adjust Lynn's People tile to fit the *whole*
    screen.
  • Josh Lowensohn 6/20/2012 4:50:01 PM
  • Lynn La 6/20/2012 4:50:04 PM
    Aw, you're too kind.
  • Lynn La 6/20/2012 4:50:14 PM
If you finish an entire line with these tiles, will it clear the whole level like Tetris?
  • josh.miller 6/20/2012 4:50:19 PM
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/20/2012 4:50:20 PM
Belfiore stole my idea and is blowing up his wife's tile.
  • Lynn La 6/20/2012 4:50:22 PM
In that case, I'll wait for that long, skinny live tile.
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/20/2012 4:50:37 PM
Ah, I was right about the colors!
  • josh.miller 6/20/2012 4:50:41 PM
  • Lynn La 6/20/2012 4:50:44 PM
    Mooarrr colors gets mooarrr claps.
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/20/2012 4:51:15 PM
But he hasn't gone through all the new themes. I do like how Microsoft has done this, but also wish I had more control over colors at an individual level, like color-coding labels in Gmail.
  • Jeffery Harrison 6/20/2012 4:51:29 PM
    arrrg What about skype???
  • josh.miller 6/20/2012 4:51:37 PM
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/20/2012 4:51:38 PM
    @Jeffery Harrison I'm sure we'll get there.
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/20/2012 4:52:04 PM
Nokia Drive is being demoed now, and the API is richer to leverage the app.
  • Lynn La 6/20/2012 4:52:20 PM
Oooh, resizing to larger sizes will give more info on the live tile.
  • clivaldo 6/20/2012 4:52:21 PM
Great cannot wait to have both the surface and the windows phone 8.
  • josh.miller 6/20/2012 4:52:21 PM
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/20/2012 4:52:45 PM
We're moving on to talk about...the shared core of codes.
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/20/2012 4:53:10 PM
Specifically, how it lines up with IE10.
  • Lynn La 6/20/2012 4:53:14 PM
Terry Myerson apparently sent Belfiore a message that read, "Let the hair do the talking!"
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/20/2012 4:53:30 PM
The faux e-mail is from Probably Not Bill Gates. Oh, Microsoft humor.
  • josh.miller 6/20/2012 4:53:33 PM
  • Lynn La 6/20/2012 4:53:53 PM
Let me tell you, the hair is doing a LOT of talking...
  • josh.miller 6/20/2012 4:53:56 PM
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/20/2012 4:53:59 PM
We're basically going to see a security aspect after the long-winded windup.
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/20/2012 4:54:11 PM
IE10 is reporting that the site is unsafe.
  • Lynn La 6/20/2012 4:54:19 PM
IE10 will detect Web sites as unsafe on the mobile browser.
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/20/2012 4:54:24 PM
And there's a consistent experience on the tablet, PC, and phone.
  • josh.miller 6/20/2012 4:54:36 PM
  • Lynn La 6/20/2012 4:54:57 PM
I just gotta say, while this demo is great, I'm reminded of my affinity for Metro's font, "Segoe."
  • Lynn La 6/20/2012 4:55:01 PM
    Glad they didn't change it!
  • Josh Lowensohn 6/20/2012 4:55:04 PM
As several commenters have noted, you can watch a live stream of the presentation here.
  • Jessica Dolcourt 6/20/2012 4:55:13 PM
Now for the demo on the shared HTML and Javascript.
