-
Carrie Mihalcik 9/4/2013 6:07:46 PMCheck out all of CNET's coverage of IFA 2013 here.
-
Jessica Dolcourt 9/4/2013 6:08:20 PMI myself am looking forward to going hands on with the Note 3. Those are some great specs there, really high-powered.
-
Jessica Dolcourt 9/4/2013 6:08:43 PMOf course, the Gear will also go through the paces in comparison with the battalion of smartwatches coming up.
-
Tom Scott 9/4/2013 6:08:57 PMdid they mention memory ?they seem more worried about selling accessories than telling us about the note 3.... like price or memory ? is it gonna be filled with bloat like other phones
-
Jessica Dolcourt 9/4/2013 6:09:06 PM@Thedig There *is* an IR blaster and the WatchOn app with the Note 3. It's on the top, in the same spot as it is on the GS4.
-
Jessica Dolcourt 9/4/2013 6:09:29 PM@Tom Scott There are 2 capacities mentioned in the specs list: 32GB and 64GB. Plus 3GB RAM.
-
Jessica Dolcourt 9/4/2013 6:09:57 PMI should mention, it isn't clear if every market will get both storage capacities.
-
Dokta 9/4/2013 6:10:58 PMThe Note 3, if the specs hold, look to be a good upgrade for SIII and Note 2 folks. I'm liking the Gear though!!
-
Jessica Dolcourt 9/4/2013 6:11:56 PM@Dokta I agree, they're very high-end. This should be a powerful device, but also power-hungry. The battery only has 100mAh over the Note 2, so that'll be interesting.
-
Jessica Dolcourt 9/4/2013 6:12:27 PM@Derek, 5.7 inch 1080p HD Super AMOLED. There's a higher resolution than on the Note 2, so that'll make a difference.
-
Kent German 9/4/2013 6:13:16 PM@Long: As it turns out, we were correct.
-
Jessica Dolcourt 9/4/2013 6:14:06 PM@Long, smartwatches are on the rise. They're going to be a very important talking point in the coming months, along with other wearables. Save your money and skip them if you'd like, but it'll be very hard to ignore them.
-
Stephen 9/4/2013 6:14:10 PMDoes the gear come with the note 3 or is it sold separately?
-
Aloo52336 9/4/2013 6:15:06 PMI gotta say, Samsung has really brought an interesting device to the table and I can't wait to try out the new pen features but will some of those come to the note 2? As a die-heart Apple fan, I seriously hope that they come out with an amazing phone next week and (wishfully) a larger screen!! Who knows, perhaps android is really the next frontier?
-
Jessica Dolcourt 9/4/2013 6:15:08 PM@Stephen The Gear will be sold separately. Samsung hasn't officially announced pricing yet, but we're hearing it could be in the $300 range. I expect the prices of wearables to drop a little bit in time for the holidays.
-
Jessica Dolcourt 9/4/2013 6:16:13 PM@Aloo52336 Since the Note 3 features a new S Pen, I'm going to go with no on that question. Android is definitely the device-maker and developers' playground.
-
Jessica Dolcourt 9/4/2013 6:17:13 PM@Rallaster0 I guess they haven't figured out how to integrate the LTE radio into the chipset? Expect a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor for the US market at least.
-
FlyGuy 9/4/2013 6:17:37 PMTwo Questions:
1. Is the watch waterproof?
2. Can the watch be used without a smartphone (i.e. as a standalone device)? -
Jessica Dolcourt 9/4/2013 6:18:02 PMOne other thing I'll say, expect to see a LOT of apps come out for the Gear.
-
Jessica Dolcourt 9/4/2013 6:19:56 PM@FlyGuy I'm not sure if it's waterproof...very good question. I feel like that's something Samsung might have mentioned if it were. The Gear is meant to be a companion for calling and sharing features (it uses the phone's radios,) but you should be able to use it as a pedometer independently. Whenever you need connections, though, it'll lean on your device.
-
Jessica Dolcourt 9/4/2013 6:21:43 PMThanks for joining, all, and for taking the time to chat afterwards. Samsung has more up its sleeve at tomorrow's press conference, which kicks off at 11am local Berlin time. We'll be there! (Well not me, I'll be asleep...)
-
Kent German 9/4/2013 6:23:25 PMAs Jessica says, thanks for joining us! Keep your browsers tuned to CNET for continued IFA coverage. Auf Wiedersehen!
