  • Josh Lowensohn 10/29/2012 5:12:18 PM
And now to the good stuff. New features.
  • Jessica Dolcourt 10/29/2012 5:12:43 PM
But before we get those, let's beat the drum once again: It's personal!
  • James Martin 10/29/2012 5:13:05 PM
  • Josh Lowensohn 10/29/2012 5:13:35 PM
First up, Live Tiles. Belfiore going over some basic features like pinning them around the phone's start screen. With WIn8 you can reconfigure the sizes and the arrangement, Belfiore notes. "Your phone becomes like your fingerprint," he says.
  • Jessica Dolcourt 10/29/2012 5:13:39 PM
I do like that live tiles are resizable, and there's a lot more screen real estate now, so you can smoosh more tiles up front.
  • James Martin 10/29/2012 5:13:43 PM

    Live tiles

  • Josh Lowensohn 10/29/2012 5:14:04 PM
    And next, Live Apps.
  • James Martin 10/29/2012 5:14:24 PM
  • Josh Lowensohn 10/29/2012 5:14:33 PM
Think Live Tiles, but apps that are integrated into your wallet, and hubs. Today we're seeing a new lockscreen that's got Live Apps integration.

Lock screen powered by Live Apps

  • Josh Lowensohn 10/29/2012 5:15:37 PM
Belfiore plays up that smartphone lockscreen wallpapers are boring, you eventually just tune it out. Instead, the company's putting apps there to make it more useful and personalized. That includes photos, notifications, and content from apps. You can tweak this to be sports scores, photos, deals of the day, etc.

How much data do live tiles utilize where every single kb matters for me on a 2GB/month plan?
  • Declan McCullagh 10/29/2012 6:16:20 PM
CF: I have the same phone. Haven't decided to go Nexus 4 or iPhone 5 or...

I'm as sold as free money! I need to get me that 920 as soon as hits the nearest border. Curious about that 7.8 update and about the music apps, in terms of sound quality I just can't opt for a WP source just yet, I love my Lumia 800 but the sound's just not there. I'm as hopeful as one can get, here's for hitting Italy in a couple of months and copping that ish!
  • Chythu 10/29/2012 6:16:36 PM
Hey!! Finally devices for some hands-on reviews
  • Josh Lowensohn 10/29/2012 6:18:04 PM
Overheard one of the device handout (which is an HTC 8X) ladies say "That was kind of scary. They just came running up to us! I thought we were going to be crushed."
  • Declan McCullagh 10/29/2012 6:18:08 PM
And remember, in Android news, we have confirmation of the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 10:
  • azureablaze 10/29/2012 6:18:14 PM
there will certainly be more announcements on the platform features and what is available to developers at the BUILD event tomorrow. looking forward to it.
  • Sharon 10/29/2012 6:18:16 PM
Someone review the 920, quick! Preferably the cyan one...
  • XeroJC2000 10/29/2012 6:18:18 PM
Verizon has Win 8 Phone on the front page, ATT still has an Apple ugh
  • CF 10/29/2012 6:18:20 PM
What did all the CNet staff wind up getting?
  • Tommy Armstrong 10/29/2012 6:18:33 PM
I think people in here have to realize that the audience was not techies and bloggers but the general public. That kid's corner will reasonate with parents and grand parents (I know would like it so could hand off my phone to my 4 year old granddaughter). And
  • David Hamilton 10/29/2012 6:18:38 PM
@CF Keep watching the pictures. Looks like Josh is doing an unboxing.
  • Declan McCullagh 10/29/2012 6:19:01 PM
Tommy: I think you're right. Having a sandbox for kids makes a lot of sense.
  • Anil Raj Gopalakrishnan 10/29/2012 6:19:04 PM
My 3.5 year old is one of the most cell-phone-illiterate in his age.
  • OVP2GO 10/29/2012 6:19:07 PM
Still no Sprint endorsement for Windows Phone 8. I agree, suck to be me. I love my Sprint service Unlimited Data, but I have been looking at the Orange HTC. Looks really cool. Sigh.
  • CF 10/29/2012 6:19:11 PM
@Declan McCullagh I'm still on iOS 5 b/c the iOS 6 isn't untethered Jailbroken yet. I'm really digging all the customization available with WP8. Only app I will miss is the iCollectmovies app. Maybe they will port it over soon?
  • Chythu 10/29/2012 6:19:22 PM
MS had done the best that it cud. Nw its all about the apps!!!!
  • HeyThere 10/29/2012 6:19:26 PM
    No it can't...voice actions baby.
  • Anil Raj Gopalakrishnan 10/29/2012 6:19:30 PM
With the kids corner, I am thinking, I will give my phone to him to play.
  • Anil Raj Gopalakrishnan 10/29/2012 6:20:01 PM
Kids Corner is really awesome. Only people with kids can understand.
  • Chythu 10/29/2012 6:20:30 PM
Wht abt the voice features of WP8. Have they got any better
  • Ben 10/29/2012 6:21:13 PM
I wish we could see a Nokia 920 unboxing :)
  • PhoenixChris 10/29/2012 6:21:14 PM
Who will be carrying the ATIV S? It's the only high end phone with a microSD slot, but I didn't see it available from any carriers.
  • Josh Lowensohn 10/29/2012 6:22:02 PM
Alright guys, we're getting some hand some time with these devices and will have photos and videos shortly. Thanks once again for joining us this morning.
  • ChrisCalabrese 10/29/2012 6:22:13 PM
Kids Corner is going to awesome. I need that feature added to Window 8 and Windows RT so that when I had off the tablets I have the same sandbox.
  • dopefresh 10/29/2012 6:22:14 PM
how did AT&T have no pricing or availability on any of there phones? it's getting ridiculous
  • OVP2GO 10/29/2012 6:22:16 PM
The one App that I need is Square Up. A mission critical app for me and my business. If chase made a payment acceptance app, game over.
  • PhoenixChris 10/29/2012 6:22:24 PM
Other than the Pandora app and the statement that the SDK will be available tomorrow, there really wasn't anything else new at this "announcement."
  • Anuj Ahuja 10/29/2012 6:22:26 PM
What about the features........MS needs to pull up its socks.........still getting 920 though.
  • Ankit 10/29/2012 6:22:27 PM
ATIV S is going to Verizon
  • Declan McCullagh 10/29/2012 6:22:30 PM
